only one half of the amount should be saved, that sum at compound interest, in twelve years would give the original sum expended --- whereas if the statues should be placed in the chapel, it is very evident that during the twelve years they would not increase in value. ---

In view therefore of the importance of of the subject, the diversity of opinion, and the large amount of money to be expended, the Committee ^undersigned recommends that a special meeting of the proprietors be called for the purpose of laying the matter before them and taking their opinion upon it.—

Voted, That it is important to place the Statues of Govr Winthrop, James Otis, and John Adams in the Chapel or Grounds of Mount Auburn

Voted, That a Committee be appointed with full powers to carry the suggestions contained in this report regarding the Statues into effect in such manner as they may deem [important?]

Boston Alexr Wadsworth Esq

Dear Sir, The following action was had at the meeting of the Trustees of Mt. Auburn, today, upon your request.-

"Upon information by the surveyor, Mr. Wadsworth, that lot numbered 537 on Olive Path had been sold as lot 3013, and 2139 on Hibiscus Path had been sold as lot 3054, and that lot 2933 had been removed from [Harebell?] Path to Spruce Avenue, and as deeds had been made accordingly.

Voted that Mr Wadsworth be authorized to make the above named corrections upon the plans."

Gentlemen, at the adjourned meeting of the Trustees of this cemetery of Mount Auburn held this day, the Treasurer stated that the care of the repair fund had become somewhat onerous without any compensation being allowed him therefor: and he requested the Trustees to consider whether anything should be allowed him for that duty.

Voted - thereforThat this question be referred to the Committee on Finance, to report thereon at the next meeting.

In order to render our Register of Interments complete, which I am now endeavoring to do, will you please send me the age (in years, mos. & ds.) of Mrs. Mary Thacher, whose body was interred in your lot in Mt. Auburn on the 17th of Jany. last.

No other fact was wanting on your order. By your prompt reply you will will oblige.

Dear Sir,

I enclose a notice to a Special Comee of which you are Chairman, accompanied with some facts bearing upon the matter.-

Two or three days since, I sent to Mr. Curtis, at his request, a paper containing some reasons for uniting the offices of Secretary & Treasr in the same person, if the Trustees should find no sufficient impediment. These were in substance what I had previously expressed to him, when it was supposed two years since then would be some change with the duties, and possibly in the person, of Treasurer.-

I think this ^course would be the one most satisfactory to the Corporation and Proprietors.

Gentlemen,

The Trustees of Mount Auburn Cemetery at their last meeting, , upon motion by Mr Nazro, adopted the following vote:

“That the expediency of increasing the compensation of the Secretary be referred to a special committee of three persons, and upon nomination by the Chair, Messrs Nazro, Curtis and Cheever were so chosen.”-

As this vote appears to have reference to myself, I know you will kindly receive a word or two in addition to the official notice thereof.-

The duties of the Secretary have from year to year been growing in importance to the Corporation and the individual members, so that one may easily and laboriously spend nearly the whole of this time to the advantage of the Corporation. The duties directly entailed by the By-laws give but a faint idea of the time and skill that is called into service in faithfully carrying out what becomes necessary for one filling the place of Secretary. Information in relation to purchase, to work, to the management of things by the Corporation, the ever active necessity of
