Hearing on the Report of Comee _ Testimony and the Superintendent's reply _

The report being accepted, the
Committee proceeded to introduce evidence.
Jonathan Mann the Superintendent was
invited in, and Antone Apple, the former
gardener, was called by the Committee,
to prove that the Superintendent had, in
behalf of the Corporation, paid him bills,
which were receipted by him (Apple) for
larger amounts than the sum paid,
the charge to the corporation, on the
books, corresponding with the sums receipted
for.

These allegations were denied by the
Superintendent
, who claimed, in reference
to one or more of the bills shown, that
the difference between the amount paid
to Mr Apple, and that charged to the
Corporation, was for money due from
Apple to him on his private account.

The Committee also producd the
books of the Corporation kept by the Superin-
tendent's clerk
, and sundry bills which
had been paid by proprietors for work
done, and showed that the corporation
