Morph. muriatis She did very well Mr Gass had fever again last night head much disturbed by the quin no operation since I saw him; fever going off this morn. Tongue moist & good Gave him Potass. sulph. [?i] pulv. rhei grv p. ipecac comp grii pulv ipecac grss every 2 hours till bowels act with Boneset tea Fannie Towers fainted this morn had fever after gave 6 grs calomel; produced distressing vomiting as it always has gave aq. menth pip with 10 drops liq. morph. mur; stopped sickness Gave 4 ayer's pills pulv tonight Tongue furred; light fever direct quin for morning gave old Harry (at DuPont's) for Expectnt Re T Lobelia Spts nitri dulc [aa Zi] mucil g. acac.; [mel disp?????t ??] aa [Zss]; a teaspoonful every hour or two

9 Monday Nov 8th Rode last night at 10 o'clock to Mr Robt Marlow's 18 miles. to see Miss Ellen M. reached there at 1 met Dr Jackson there Case of cold from getting feet wet at time for mens truation aet 16; never menstr till this summer partially suppressed last period Intense pain in head & eyes; lids & surroundings swelled conjunctiva very red tongue heavily coated has had fever pulse only [75] now soft Has been purged calomel & [Dov] powder on Sat. night taken old women's teas, & hot [patilubia] &c Dr J. has placed Blister on mucha order [ianes] solun prep Potass sulph. Rhei calomel Dover's p & Ipecac given Mr Gass on the 5th (see p. 5.) with infus. Boneset; hot hip bath appl. sat. sol. aq. ammon. with opii to abdomen, on flannel cloth with hot hoe cake over cupping, if necessary, to temples sinapisms if necessary & thighs Purg veg pills after 3 or 4 doses of the saline & mercuride powder &c Gave Mrs Marlow, who is at turn of life anaemic, dyspeptic, pain in shoulder & neck &c The comp. "Blood making pill (see Recipes p. ) ter die; pil; Bl. [mass] & Co [???] colocynth every night or two [liniment] to back, shoulder &c

10 Wednesday Nov 10th First frost Therm 37 o hung out on post in our portico behind this was at 8 o'clock A.M.

Nov 11th Thursday Clear & bright in morning; cloudy during day raw & cool; sprinkled some last night Nov 12th Friday Clear, bright day; somewhat cloudy in afternoon Attend. Mrs William Mun roe in confinement today 2nd labor went at 4 1/2 A.M;. delivered at little after 6 P.M. Very lingering, tedious labor Pains weak & worrying on acct of excess of liquor amnii Frequent vomiting Right occipito acetab Male child Tho' the liq. amnii had been coming away gradually, I opened the bag freely, & the labor was quickly ended; at least a gallon of fluid followed the child [v?????d] had to dip it from the bed

11 Little patient Tim, at Mr Jones much worse left side drawn & rigid much more right eye much inflamed & swollen; deglutition very difficult articulation almost gone Diagnosis; effusion at base of brain he has been doing well for a long time became suddenly worse in last 24 hours Saturday Nov 13th Went this morning, at 1/4 past 4 A.M. to Chattahoochee; 21 miles to see Mr Lewis Davis; in con sultn with Dr R. L. Byrd; his attend physician found him moribund; pulseless; ex hausted cold profuse clammy sweat Died 1/2 hour after my arrival He had had bilious colic last Monday for which Dr B. gave 15 grs. calomel; Dr B was absent 24 hours, & Davis took "nearly two [bott] castor oil" before he got his bowels open tremendous diarrhoea ensued, which Dr B. had not been able to check I gave him on my arrival 10gtt Barbour's stimulant; 30gtt Hoffman's anodyne; & a tablespoonful Camphor water; he slept more quietly for 20 or 30 min; awoke & quietly died Clear fair cool

12 Sunday Nov 14 Mrs Munroe took some calc magnesi'a last night; for heart burn & unpleasant feelings in stomach Took a teaspoonful this morning about 2 oclock P.M. suffered very acutely from pain in lower part of abdomen Gave some drops of liq. morph. mur. in camph water; & presc. a large enema Bowels freely moved consistent faeces & relief ensued Had fever at night; head giddy & light; tender in abdomen on moving Re Pil Hydrarg grx; P Ipecac 3/4ths gr ;at bed time with draught sage tea; and Seidlitz in morning Cold Clear day Monday Nov 15 Mrs M better today; pulse quick all day however skin moist; more or less headache; breasts full & nipples tender [Broken] doses of Seidlitz, with sage tea breast pump at night; with stupes of hot vinegar; Warm herb tea; & 5 grs pil hydrarg with 1/2 gr Ipecac Rainy & cold day Th 64 o now (10 P.M.) with fire in office raining without
