23 Feb 10 Prescribed for Mr M. Mc Aliley's step daughter aet 8 an; fleshy child has very poor use of her right side can hardly use her knife & fork; & limps on that side

Re Tinct Sanguinaria [Zi]; Strychnine gr 1/2 give 5 drops ter die, gradually increasing give 1 or 2 of "Ayer's" pills every other night use cold salt bath & crash towel to spine every morning [Dict] &c &c

Feb 14 Monday Bright clear day; yesterday Ditto Introduced one of Hodges pessaries for Mrs T ; found prolapsus I have been attending her for some 2 or 3 weeks, but have not taken notes The pessary seems to hold up the uterus & fit well, tho' she suffers some pain from it as her tongue is coated, & she has again had some fever today, I give 6 grs Blue Mass tonigh;t & direct a quinine (10 grs) enema with 1/4 gr morph. sulph for tomorrow morning She always uses quinine thus

25 Mar 31 Mts Taylor aet 22 or 25 pregnant married since last Sept 12 [???] mis carried once at 3 or 4 months Before marriage suffered much from "cold" with regard to menses; suppressed once for 12 months Now pregnant; had [her] courses last on 4th of last July She is suffering a great deal now pain in lower part of lumbar region a burning thro' the lower part of abdomen; Jerking nervous movements confused, crazy feelings Bowels for 2 weeks past discharging only from pills, & the de jections dark, & excessively fetid Frequent calls to urinate, & pain in doing it urine red but clear Pulse 120 quick & jerky tongue coated, dark in middle & lacking moisture Spine very tender between the scapulae I dry cupped the spine, & directed rubbing with croton oil gave Blue pill 4grs & pulv Doveri griii every 3 hours till 3 portions are taken a brisk purg. dose of Ayer's pills at Bedtime [?? Elixir Rachen] & Spts nitre ter die a mixt of camphor water; Hoffman's anodyne paregoric used when she is jerking

26 April 1 Mrs Taylor worse; bowels not acted out of her senses several times since I saw her; Jerking &c &c I found great tenderness over region of each kidney cupped freely; drew many ounces of blood about 8 I reckon gave pil hydrarg grv Ipecac gri\ (at 3 oclock) 3 comp cath. pills at bedtime hot poultices to loins Continue Buchen & nitre use chloroform (in G arabic emuls) for the jerks If c. c. pills do not operate by morning, give 6 or 7 of [aqut] pills Apr 2 She is much better

27 April 7th Dr Telfair called me to assist him in reducing a dislocation of the upper end of the radius (left arm) patient little Julia DuPont, aged [ ] In jumping rope fell forwards, & caught on the palm of left hand; the bone was thrown backwards, & could be very easily felt; the arm pronated; supin ation could not be effected, though it cd be fixed & extended no swelling; it was first done By extending, & pressing the end of the bone inwards with the ball of the thumb, the reduction was readily effected The bone clicked back to its place beautifully

April 15th Another case of dislocation of the same kind strange coincidence for Fergusson, in his Surgery, says that he never met with but one well marked case of it Negro boy Mully (alias Granville) belonging to Mr Forman aet about 10 has been in very delicate health under our treat ment has improved very much of late
