RECTO: 1 Articles of Association
We the subscribers do hereby voluntarily associate ourselves together, to provide, hold and keep in repair suitable grounds & other conveniences for the burial of the dead in Hanover in the County of Grafton & State of New Hampshire, agreeably to the provisions of Chapter 145th of the Revised Statutes. And for that purpose, do adopt the following Articles, specifying the object of the Association & the conditions on which it is formed.
Article 1. This Association shall be known and called by the name of "the Dartmouth Cemetery Association".
Article 2. The object of this Association is to provide, hold, & keep in repair suitable grounds and other conveniences in the vicinity of Dartmouth College for the burial of the dead, and for that purpose, to purchase and im prove the whole or a part of the parcel of land now owned by Prof. Alpheus Crosby, and lately owned by John S. Cram Esqr lying westerly and northerly of the present burying ground, and [[implore]] said College - to improve said burying ground, and to procure such conveniences for the burial of the dead, as said Association may by vote designate.
Article 3. The Corporate property of this Association shall be divided into sixty shares of five dollars each. One half of each subscription for shares shall be paid at or before the first meeting, called as herein after provided and the other half on or before . The number of shares may be here

Article 4. Assessments may be raised from time to time, provided that, in no case shall the assessments of any one year exceed fifty per cent on the original value of the shares.
Article 5. The first meeting of this Association shall be holden at the Vestry near Dartmouth College on the at seven o'clock afternoon, and public notices of the same shall be given by posting up notices thereof at the Post Office in said Hanover, and at said Vestry two days previous to said meeting.
Article 6. This Association may, from time to time, adopt such by-laws and regulations as may be thought expedient.
Article 7. The provisions of this Association shall not be binding unless forty shares are subscribed on or before the day of holding the first meeting.
Article 8. In case of the dissolution of this Association, the lands purchased for the purposes of the Cemetery shall remain perpetually dedicated for the burial of the dead.

Agreeably to the provisions of the fifth of the Articles of Association, the first meeting of the Society was called by posting up at the Post Office, & at the Vestry, at least two days previous to the tim of said meeting, notice thereof, as follows, viz.
Notice:
The Stockholders of the Dartmouth Cemetery Association are hereby notified that the first meeting of said Association will be holden at the Vestry near Dartmouth College on Friday Oct. 17 at 7 o'clock P.M.

At the meeting holden in pursuance of the above notice, at the Vestry near Dartmouth College October 17th, at 7 o'clock P.M., Rev. Dr. Haddock was called to the Chair, & S. Chase was requested to serve as Secretary of the meeting.
It was stated by the Chairman, that the requisite ^number of shares had been subscribed according to the provision of the seventh of the Articles of Association.
The Articles of Association were then read by the Chairman, & also the notice for the first meeting.
A code of By-Laws was then read, & after some discussion & amendment, was adopted, as follow, viz.

of Prof. Crosby.
On motion of Professor Young, it was voted That the Secretary, in the name of the Corporation, give public notice of its formation, name & object, by publishing such notice three weeks successively in the "Democratic Republican", "a paper printed in the County in which the said association is formed", "& also by posting a like notice in one or more public places in the town in which said association is formed & located".
Voted, that this meeting be now dissolved.

Agreeably to the Provisions of the third article of the Bylaws the annual meeting of the Association was holden on Monday April 13. at 7 o'clock P.M., having been duly notified by the Secretary, by posting up at the Post Office in Hanover, seven days before the meeting, the following notice, viz. (See file E.)

The Stockholders of the Dartmouth Cemetary Association are hereby notified that the annual meeting of said Association will be holden at the Vestry near Dartmouth College on Monday, April 13th at 7 o'clock P.M.

The report of the Directors was read, stating that notice of the formation, name & object of the Association had been given by the Secretary, as required by law, & directed by the vote of the Association, that committees had been appointed on the subjects of fencing, of surveying the land & dividing it into lots, of procuring a grant of more land from the College, & of general improvement of the grounds; also, that the committees had, in part, attended to the duties assigned them (See file C.)
Voted, to accept the report.

The Association met according to adjournment; the President in the chair. No business being proposed for formal action. Voted to adjourn without day.
The meeting was accordingly dissolved.
