Ordered, That the report of the Auditors be referred to the Committee in Finance to print and report.

Ald: Drennan from the Committee on Finance and accounts brought up a Report (Number 567 Book D) which was read and adopted.

Ald: McCammon from the Committee on Fire, Water and Gas brought up a Report (Number 568 Book D) which was read and adopted.

Reports from the Chief Engineer for Fire Department for extension Ladder and the Mechanical Engineer giving a List of ladders carried on the Hook and Ladder Truck &c were read.

On motion of Ald: McCammon seconded by Ald: McDermott Ordered, That the Communications of Chief Devlin be referred to the Committee on Fire, Water and Gas to report.

On motion of Ald: McRossie seconded by Ald: Walkem Ordered, That the Mayor issue the usual Proclamation for the observance of Dominion Day and that Monday the second of July be declared a public Holiday in this City and that the usual meeting of this Council be held on Tuesday evening the third of July.

On motion the Council adjourned.

A Special meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Kingston was held this day. Present

Aldermen Allen, Asselstine, Campbell, Carson, Clements, Drennan, Gaskin, Gildersleeve, Harty, Metcalfe, Mooers, McDermott, McRossie, Pense

The Mayor stated the meeting was called to consider resolution passed at public meeting - Grant to St John sufferers by Fire also to take up Report of Street &c

The Mayor read the resolution adopted at the public meeting yesterday recommending $2,500.00

On motion of Ald: Gaskin seconded by Ald: Mooers Ordered, That His Worship The Mayor be instructed to telegraph the Mayor of St Johns to draw for $1500. for the

the relief of the sufferers by the late fire - Yeas 13 Nays 1.

On motion of Ald: McRossie seconded by Ald: Carson Ordered, That the additional sum of Twenty five dollars be granted for the opening up of Grave street.

The Chairman from the Committee on Streets and Improvements brought up a Report (Number 569 Book D) which was read and adopted and received.

Ald: McCammon here entered.

Ald: McRossie moves seconded by Ald: Harty That the report of the Committee on Streets be adopted.

In Amendment Ald: Pense moves seconded by Ald: McCammon That the clause in the report just read relating to George street be expunged till the Committee have fully examined the ground and reported again upon it which being put was lost and the original motion was carried.

On motion of Ald: Drennan seconded by Ald: Clements Ordered, That the City Engineer report to the Finance Committee on or before Monday 9th July the amount of money spent in each Ward, out of the appropriation made for said wards.

On motion the Council adjourned.

Monday 7:30 O'Clock PM Kingston July 9th 1877

A Special meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Kingston was held this day to take up general business. Present

His Worship the Mayor

Aldermen Allen, Asselstine, Campbell, Carson, Drennan, Dupuis, Gaskin, Metcalfe, Mooers, McCammon, McDermott, McRossie, Noble

The Clerk read the minutes of the three last meetings.

A Communication from Messrs Power & Son Architects was read. In Re state of new Registry office.

Ald: Walkem entered.

A Communication from Francis Elkington County Clerk was read enclosing copy of Resolutions respecting the fencing of the Court House ground and in Re Tolls.

On motion of Ald: Drennan seconded by Ald: Allen Ordered, That the Committee on Streets & Improvements be a Committee to Act with the County Council in regard to the fencing the Court House grounds with power to act.

A Telegram from the Mayor of St John's N.B. was read conveying thanks for the Contributions to the relief fund.

A Communication from Andrew Rea was read offering Sun dial for sale to City for Park.

On motion of Ald: Gaskin seconded by Ald: Mooers Ordered, That the Communication of Andrew Rea be referred to the Committee on the Park to report.

A Communication from Charles Riddle was read enclosing list for damages sustained by Waggon from Street Railway.

On motion of Ald: Drennan seconded by Ald: Allen Ordered, That the Communication of Charles Riddle be referred to the Committee on Streets &c to report.

A Communication from J.E. Clark Acting Secretary Kingston General Hospital was read requesting the usual Grant from the City to the funds of the Hospital.

On motion of Ald: Allen seconded by Ald: McCammon Ordered, That the Communication of the Governance of the Kingston Hospital be referred to the Committee on Finance to report.

A Circular from Joseph E. Lemieux was read offering Photographs of Governor General and Countess of Dufferin at cheap rate - There was no action taken therein.

Petitions from George D. Ferguson and Widow Davis respecting Taxes were submitted and referred to the Court of Revision.

Brokenshire praying that the sum of $68 now due him by the City be applied to reduce his Taxes.

On motion of Ald: Drennan seconded by Ald: Allen Ordered, That the petition of J. Brokenshire be referred to the Committee on Finance to report.

Ald: Allen brought up the petition of Alexander Smyth praying permission to erect a Boat House at the foot of Earl street.

On motion of Ald. Allen seconded by Ald. Drennan Ordered, That the petition of Alexander Smyth be referred to the Committee on Wharves and Harbour with power to act.

Ald: Metcalfe brought up the petition of Bernard Bird respecting Taxes.

On motion of Ald: Metcalfe seconded by Ald: McCammon Ordered, That the petition of Bernard Bird be referred to the Court of Revision to report.

Ald: McCammon brought up the petition of Johanthan Taylor praying for a reduction of the Carters License Fee for the portion of year expired.

On motion of Ald: McCammon seconded by Ald: Metcalfe Ordered, That the petition of Jonathan Taylor be referred to the Committee on License to report.

Ald: McRossie brought up the petition of Messrs Davidson and Doran on the subject of Taxes.

On motion of Ald. McRossie seconded by Ald: Gaskin Ordered, That the petition of Davidson, Doran & Co be referred to the Court of Revision to report.

Ald: Dupuis from the Committee on Finance and Accounts brought up a Report (Number 570 Book D) which was read and adopted.

On motion of Ald: Drennan seconded by Ald: Allen Ordered, That the sum of Eight Hundred dollars be placed to the credit of His Worship the Mayor as the Annual allowance for his services as Mayor for 1877.

Ald: McCammon from the Committee on Fire, Water and Gas brought up a Report (Number 571 Book D) which was read and adopted.

A Report from the City Engineer was read showing Expenditure for the year 1877 to 23rd June.

On motion of Ald: Carson seconded by Ald: Allen Ordered, That the report of the City Engineer be referred to the Committee on Streets.

A Report from the Chief Engineer of the Fire Department was read on the subject of the Alarm Boxes - There was no action taken therein.

On motion of Ald: Drennan seconded by Ald: Noble Ordered

Ordered, That the City Solicitor be authorised to take the legal steps at once to have Grove street opened according to laws.

Several member of the Council having left and there being no quorum.

The meeting adjourned.
