A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Kingston was held this day Present
His Worship the Mayor Aldermen Adams, Bermingham, Carson, Clements, Drennan, Dunn, Gildersleeve, Harty, Hobart, McKelvey, O'Brien, Redden, Robinson, Shannon, Thompson, Whiting, J Wilson, W Wilson
The Clerk read the minutes of the last meeting
A Circular from the City Clerk, Hamilton was read enclosing Copy of Resolution Re Immigration. Referred to the Finance Committee
A Communciation from Robert Forsyth was read asking permission to tin his stable - Referred to the Committee on Fire, Water and Gas
A Communication from John J Maloney was read asking for a settlement for land taken from him for opening up of Rideau street. Referred to the Committee on Finance &c
The Mayor here stated that he had received a telegram from Sir A Caron stating that the Militia Department had an objection to the extension of Bagot street through the Artillery Park
Ald. Carson brought up the petition of the Wmville Fire Brigade for a remission of Rent of City Hall on the occasion of their first assembly - Referred to the Finance Committee
A Communication from the Rev'd Samuel Houston and six others Ministers was read Re demoralizing performance in City Building.
Ald: Harty from the Committe on Finance and accounts brought up a Report (Number 379 Book E) which was read and adopted
A Report from William Irving Esquire, City Engineer was read submitting statement of expenditure on public Works for the year ending December 31 1885
The Chairman from the Committee on Fire, Water and Gas brought up a Report (Number 380 Book E) which was read
Ald: Carson moves seconded by Ald: Bermingham That the report of the Committee on Fire, Water and Gas be received and adopted
In amendment Ald. J Wilson moves seconded by Ald: McKelvey That that part of the Report of the Committee on Fire, Water and Gas referring to the proposed lamps for Arch street be referred back to the Commitee for reconsideration which being put was [underline]carried[/underline] Yeas 11 Nays 8 and the

and the orignal motion was adopted as amended
The Chairman of the Court of Revision brought up a Report (Number 381 Book E) taxation on vessels, which was read and adopted
A Report from Edward H Smythe in terms of 47 Vict Cap 28 Schedule A section 3 relative to Board of Health was read also the Report of Samuel H Fee Medical Health Officer Kingston on sanitary condition of Kingston
On motion of Ald: Redden seconded by Ald: Gildersleeve Ordered, That the thanks of this Council be tendered to the Rev'd James Brock for his having generously granted to the City without any remuneration a part of his property to enable the City Engineer to straighten the board walk from the Court House to Sydenham street and that a copy of the Resolution be sent to him
The Mayor was requested to leave the chair and Ald: Harty was appointed Chairman
On motion of Ald Gildersleeve recorded by Ald Clements
Ordered, That the thanks of the Council are due and hereby tendered to His Worship E. H Smythe for the dignity, courtesy and fair ruling which has characterized his occupancy of the Civic chair and for the general efficiency of his administration during the year 1885 - Carried unanimously
