[Thursday 18 January 1951]

Recording seesion 2 to 5 N.Y.C.

Up at 7:45 bathed, packed a bit and had breakfast at 8:50 made out checks for the new T.V. 199.20 and to Meserve 125t. Left for New York at 10.12. Service at station .75 fare 3.65, call .10 cab 1.25 cab 1.25 cab .60 cab .75 dinner 2.25 porter .75 cab .50 checked in the Algonquin about 7 + bell boy .60 Clled Alice Fairclough 2 flash batteries .20 drive to Brewster 1.50 Lunch 1.10, worked with Steffi then Franz prior to the recording session at 2 til 5. We made 4 songs Schubert Dietorelle, Wohin, Standchen + Der Erlleonig.

Expenditures 14.75

New T.V. 199.20 by check #2313 Meserve 125.00 " on D.N.B.

Up at 8:45 bathed had breakfast at 9:40 tips .40 phoned N.A.A.C.P. + Urban League re info for John Martin checked out of Algonquin at 11:15 bill 19.36 bell boy .65 doorman .35 cab to station .50 porter .80 checking .45 cab to Rupps $1.25 then down town by subway + bus .20 lunch .95 recording session from 2 to 5 did not move as fast as yesterday. Went back to Grand Central Station, called home .50 paper + magazine .55 yogurt .50 had dinner on train red cap .90

Retired at 10:15

[Saturday 20 January 1951]

Up at 8 arrived Chicago at 9. pullman porter 1.50 red cap .85 bell boy .75 breakfast tip .40 interview, call from Carleton Wilson. Went by cab to Lyon + Heealy .70 back .70 very nasty weather. Lunch at 3:15 tips .40 listened to operas. music .40

[Sunday 21 Januray 1951]

Up at 9 bathed and had breakfast at 10:15 rehearsal at 12:30 Back at the hotel I packed and checked out at 2:45 Concert at 3:30 sold out house wonderful audience and not out worst performance. Very many autograph seekers I dressed into "costume" for dinner. Emily + Sophia had arranged a lovely party at their hotel. The guests were charming and the food delicious. Jofe + I left about 10:15 and went directly to the station to get the train to Minneapolis. (11:15 P.M.)

I retired at 12:30

Hotel 22.09 tips 1.25 Freibe called about 11:20 A.M. to wish we luck. 23.34

[Monday 22 January 1951]

Up at 8 arrived Minneapolis 8:40, pullman porter 1.50. We were met at the station by the U's publicity man. Red cap .75 at hotel, bell boy .75 my quarters are fabulous (the Nordic Suite) no less. 2 bed rooms, 2 baths a small bar, a cedar closet 3 others and a quite large living room with piano. I had breakfast (tip 50) and sort of messed around. A short interview at 4:30 another at 6 after which I had dinner (tip 50). At 8:40 Mr Dorati came for short rehearsal At 11 I began to prepare for bed + eventually made it about 12:30
