Dear Sir
Please find on the following page the annual cost of running the engine connected with our Fountains.
I tried the experiment of keeping no fireman in May, but as the Engineer keeps a general oversight at the East gate, I found he could not do the work alone. The Engineer's time from April 1st to Dec. 1st I charge in to cost of running the engine , but from Dec. 1st to April 1st, five months, I think his time should be charged to general expenese, as he acts as gatekeeper thru the year at the East Gate. It would be necessary, in fact even if the waterworks were removed, to keep a man in charge of that gate.
The cost of pumping seems high, but I think we could pump more water with a slight increase in expense. were it necessary.
Respectfuly J.W. Lovering
