Trustees.

August 9t, 1871

The regular monthly Meeting of the Trustees was
held on Wednesday, , at half past Three o'clock, P.M.

Present, Messrs J. T. Bradlee, Bigelow, Brewer,
Lawrence, Livermore and Snow.

The record of the last Meeting was read & approved.

Memorial Work of Art - (Sphynx) Report of Com. on Grounds concerning.

A Report was received from the Committee on
Grounds to whom was referred the proposition of Dr. Bigelow
to give to the Proprietors of Mt Auburn Cemetery a granite
statue of a Sphynx stating that the statue is in a state
of forwardness, and its early arrival expected, and recom-
mending "the Trustees to accept said statue on behalf of the
Corporation whenever the same finished, complete, together
with a suitable pedestal shall be delivered at Mount
Auburn by Dr. Bigelow, and that the expense of transportation
of said statue from the Gate of the Cemetery to the place of
erection, together with the cost of erection of the same, and
the construction of a suitable foundation for said pedestal
be borne by the Corporation." And further recommending
"that all work necessary to carry out the suggestions of
this Report be done under the direction of the Committee
on Grounds, and that said Committee be authorized and
empowered to decide upon the location of said statue,
and to make such changes in any Avenue or Path as may
in their judgment be desirable in order to adapt the lo-
cation to the requirements of the statue."

Note: I am familiar with the locution "on behalf of" whereas until this page, the minutes have all said, "in behalf of". I wonder if this was a point-in-time where the idiom changed.
