OUR FIELD OF SUCCESS.

old operations still in use by most surgeons, and enables the patient to get about in two or three days and return home in a week's time, while to cure by the old methods requires six weeks at least, and oftener two or three months. See numerous testimonials and reports of the worst cases treated, in "Invalids' Guide Book," sent for one stamp.

STRUCTURES AND URINARY FISTULAS. --Hundreds of cases of the worst forms of stricture, many of them greatly aggravated by the careless use of instruments in the hands of inexperienced physicians and surgeons, causing false passages, urinary fistulas, and other complications, annually consult us for relief and cure. That no case of this class is too difficult for our skill, is proved by cases reported in the "Invalids' Guide Book," to which we refer with pride. A full consideration of this subject is also contained therein. Sent to any address for one stamp. To intrust this class of cases to physicians of small experience, is a dangerous proceeding. Many a man has been ruined for life by so doing, while thousands annually lose their lives through unskillful treatment.

STONE IN THE BLADDER is removed by our surgeons in the safest possible manner.

FISTULA IN ANO, PILES, and all other diseases affecting the region of the lower bowel, are largely treated, and with marvelous success, by a surgeon giving his whole time to the study and treatment of this class of affections. See "Invalids' Guide Book."

DISEASES OF WOMEN.--As our Dr. PIERCE'S Favorite Prescription is a potent specific for most of the chronic weaknesses and diseases peculiar to women, thousands of invalids suffering from these maladies are annually cured by it at their homes, without consulting us; so that it is only the most complicated and difficult cases, and those of a surgical character, with which we have to deal. Yet our records show that over 6,000 females received special treatment during the past year from our specialists in charge of this branch of practice. The facilities at the Invalids' Hotel are of a superior order as regards the remedial means and appliances for the cure of all the most difficult and complicated chronic diseases peculiar to females. See "Invalids' Guide Book," sent on receipt of one stamp.

BARRENNESS, OR STERILITY, is generally due to cuases easily removed, yet not generally understood by physicians who manifest little interest in, and often treat lightly, a subject fraught with so much importance to humanity. Our specialits have made this subject a speical study. By their skill, stricture of the neck of the uterus, and other impediments to the bearing of offspring, have been easily and painlessly overcome, and hundreds of homes thereby made happy. See "Invalids' Guide Book," sent for one stamp.

FIBROUS TUMORS of the uterus have frequently been cured by infection and other means, and even

OVARIAN TUMORS have been made to yield to electrolysis and other treatment, without resort to operative surgery. As a last resort, however, our surgeons do not hesitate to operate in these cases.

LADIES ABOUT TO BE CONFINED will find our hotel a quiet retreat and congenial home, affording large, well-ventilated, separate rooms, and experienced, kind, and attentive nurses. The physicians in charge of this speical and important department, were chosen on account of their large experience and skill as accoucheurs. Their professional writings on "Painless Delivery," "Unneccessary Use of Instruments in Delivery," "Meddlesome Midwifery," "Causes of Difficult Delivery and How to Overcome Them," have been well received by the profession, and, together with their success in practice, furnish indisputable and practical evidence of their masterly familiarity with their specialty. The importance of careful and skillful management and good aftertreatment and care, in this class of cases, is well illustrated in the ruined health of thousands, due to harsh, meddlesome, or negligent, midwifery, to say nothing of the thousands who annually lose

OUR FIELD OF SUCCESS.

their lives during confinement through incompetency of medical attendants. Travel by rail is now made so comfortable, and distance so speedily and easily overcome, that our institution, being the only private one in America organized with such a department, is becoming a favorite resort for this class of cases; and therefore, although our buildings are large and our accommodations extensive, yet, to be sure of securing a room, early application should be made. We especially solicit those cases in which, from deformity or previous experience, difficult delivery is feared. To all confiding in us we pledge our best and most careful attention.

KIDNEY DISEASES.--Bright's Disease, Diabetes, and kindred affections, have been very largely treated and cures effected in hundreds of cases that had been pronounced beyond hope. These cases are readily diagnosticated, or determined, by chemical analysis of the urine, without personal examination of the patient, and can, therefore, generally be successfully treated at their homes.

INFLAMMATION OF BLADDER, Gravel, Enlarged Prostate, Retention of Urine, and kindred affections, are largely treated by our specialists with the most gratifying results. See Medical Adviser for full consideration of these affections.

LUNG DISEASES.--Catarrhal, bronchial, throat, and lung diseases constitute an important field of practice at the Invalids' Hotel, over 4,000 cases having been examined, advised, and prescribed for, during the past year. Yet a far larger number of cases are cured annually by the use of our Dr. SAGE'S Catarrh Remedy and Dr. PIERCE'S Golden Medical Discovery, without consulting us. It is generally only in the very worst forms of these diseases, or where the case is badly complicated, that we are applied to for advice and modification of treatment, to meet special conditions. See testimonials of remarkable cures of lung diseases in Medical Adviser ($1.50), also in "Invalids' Guide Book" (sent for one stamp).

NERVOUS DISEASES.--Epilepsy, Convulsions, or Fits, Paralysis, or Palsy, Locomotor Ataxia, Neuralgia, St. Vitus's Dance, Insomnia, or inability to sleep and threatened insanity, Nervous Debility, arising from overstudy, excesses, and other causes, and every variety of nervous affection, have been treated by our specialists with a measure of success heretofore regarded as impossible, and winning for our Faculty golden opinions, even from professional brethren strongly prejudiced against our institution. See cases reported in "Invalid's Guide Book," sent for one stamp. Full consideration of these diseases in Medical Adviser.

CANCERS AND OTHER TUMORS. -- The cure of cancers and other tumors has constituted a large branch of our practice. Since our new method of treating cancers has been adopted, the results have been most gratifying, alike to surgeon and patient. See reports of cures in "Invalids' Guide Book," sent for one stamp.

DISEASES OF THE EYE AND EAR. -- Our specialist performs all the most delicate operations upon the eye and ear with the greatest skill, and treats all inflammatory and other diseases of these delicate organs with unusual success. The senses of sight and hearing have been retored to scores of patients by his skill. Cross-eyes straightened, and unnatural growths upon the eyeball removed. Artificial eyes and ear-drums inserted. See Medical Adviser ($1.50), or "Invalids' Guide Book," sent for one stamp.

All letters of inquiry or consultation should be addressed to WORLD'S DISPENSARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, Buffalo, N. Y.

Drafts and Postal Orders should be made payable to our Association or to our Treasurer, LESTER B. SMITH, to whom, if any prefer, registered letters may be also addressed.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT.-- Dr. R. V. PIERCE, having returned from his visit to our European branch at London, and sold all interest in every other business, will hereafter devote his whole time and attention to those cases of Chronic Diseases applying, either in person or by letter, to the WORLD'S DISPENSARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION for treatment.

STARTLING WEAKNESS,

Nervous and General Debility.

The causes of these conditions of the physical system receive but little attention from the people. By reason of a false modesty the youth of our land are kept in ignorance of the baneful and ruinous results, which certain solitary, indiscreet practice produce. These vices, if persisted in, will eventually undermine the constitution induce nervous debility and premature decay. Among the earliest manifestations which they induce is a desire on the part of the sufferer to avoid society - solitude being preferred. The most common symptoms are languor, mental anxiety, gloomy forebodings, impaired memory, physical debility, and indigestion. A drain of a delicate, yet most debilitating, character is made upon the system, In many cases the vital fluid, or life principle, passes away with the urine, unsuspected and unobserved by the sufferer. To this secret drain upon the system may be attributed the cause of many diseases of the nerves, stomach, heart, kidneys, bladder, and generative organs. Thus can we account for a large proportion of all the cases of palsy, or paralysis, apoplexy, epilepsy, softening of the brain, convulsions, insanity, loss of nervous and muscular power, and kindred affections. The patient experiences languor and melancholy, has an irritable disposition, often cold, dry, scurvy skin, blotches, and other cutaneous eruptions. He has a downcast look, absence of will-power, unfounded suspicions, feeble, staggering limbs, weakness in the back, night-sweats, horrible dreams, offensive smell about the person, haggard and blanched complexion, derangement of the sight, lack of self-confidence, impaired memory, want of energy, and many other symptoms which are indicative of self or sexual abuse. No one suffering from the diseases induced by these evils will, at any stage, experience more than a small part of the symptoms above enumerated.

MARRIED MEN who are suffering from a flagging of their powers, or, in other words, from premature old age, consult us by hundreds and thousands for relief. Without boasting, we can safely say that no other institution in the world is so largely patronized by sufferers of this class, as is the World's Dispensary and Invalids' Hotel. Dr. R. V. PIERCE, and the medical gentlemen associated with him in charge of this department of practice, are men of rare attainments and skill, having had large experience in both hospital and private practice. Knowing that the diseases arising from selfabuse and excessive marital indulgence are sadly overlooked and neglected by the great mass of the medical profession, these gentle- men have given special attention to them, and have developed and perfected a series of remedies of surpassing efficacy in such cases. These remedies are entirely vegetable, perfectly harmless, and act speedily and thoroughly. They restore the wrecked and debilitated organs to perfect vigor, arrest premature decay, impart tone and energy to the whole system, and, like rejuvenating elixirs, fully restore the flagging powers and dormant energies. So positively certain are these remedies in producing the desired effect, that we regard this class of diseases more easily cured than almost any other chronic, or lingering affection. We prescribe them not only with assurance, but with the same confidence that we would give bread and beef to a starving man to satisfy his hunger. The patient is subjected to no surgical operation, and he can safely and accurately follow the directions given, while the treatment does not interfere with any ordinary occupation in which he may be engaged. These delicate diseases should not be intrusted to physicians who advertise under fictitious names, or to those of ordinary qualifications. The general practitioner may be thoroughly read in these cases, but he cannot acquire the skill of a specialist who annually treats thousands of cases, while the former seldom, if ever, has occasion to prescribe for them. Our medical and surgical staff embraces graduates from some of the most famous American and European medical colleges and universities, and the vast experience which they have had in these diseases, together with the discovery of new remedies and modes of cure, has enabled them to succeed in thou38
