right by San Simean seems the best. It is the center of Condo Lane. It is where everyone surfs. Great view. You can see sailboats going out too sea from the marina. You can see them race. It is about equidistant between the Refinery & Pales Verdes. Nice views in both directions. One to industry & one to pleasure.

Met Chip for Lunch at noon and then went to work about 1:30. Stayed till 3:00. Talked with all then about places to live. Examined map for San Pedro area. It would add at least 15 min maybe 1/2 hour to driving time to LA. So forget that. Drove from RM around whole Penin & back to Hotel by 4:30. T here are few apts in Pales Verdes. So I didn't see anything much.

Took Chip to airport. Had some drinks. Saw him off at 5:40. Then I go home.

I wanted to exercise my

freedom to go to LA & make use of it but suppressed that. I'm getting good at that, just like I did at baths in Phoenix.

Came home in rush hour. Had dinner. Went to Spa at 8. Was Ladies Day. So went to Ryan. No way in. So went to Redondo to look some more. Wait. First had to meet with Alan Cohen at 7:15 to see his Condominium.

After trip back to Redondo, it was 9:35 so I went to store, got milk, went home, Tiger's milk, prebed routine & to bed at 10:00. Got up at 6:30.

Chip called Friday 7/8/77 morning while I was in shower. I eventually reached him on calling back. About the drawing.

I had not yet seen the inexpensive stuff in Redondo, so I began my day doing that. Got a full idea of pricing. One really good

place with no view was avail the 28th and was only $265/mo! That was unusual. It was right across street from stairs to beach. No pool of course. Casa Riviera.

Rock bottom was $235. I doubt they'll get it. It was a real pit.

My base line of where I could possibly live was $275 at Brookside Village. It went up to ~320, 340 or Esp with some view. High end was in Oceania for $600 and Ocean Plaza for $660. Pretty steep but beautiful.

And there were places in the Village and places on Catalina. I got a view of there prices.

But best place I thought was still Alan Cohen's in San Simeon. So I decided I wanted it but I also strongly believed that $475/mo is too much. Based on the fact that I could live across the street and pay

as little as $265 but no more than $340, it seemed a bit steep. It has an extra special view and sound, and is especially nice. Taking $325 as the price for a moderately nice apt with same view, then $425 is certainly enough for San Simeon. It saves a few steps and is a little more prestigious. Actually I thought $400 was a good price so after all my hunting & searching Friday, I called Alan to tell him. He said he'd discuss it with his wife & brother-in-law. I took off & saw a few more places & drove all over the "neighborhood" until 7:00 and then, happily, left for dinner, spa, clean up, Studio One and The Baths (8709).

It was ok but not

anything special Friday night.

Sat morn 7/9 I think, as I've thought before, that Studio 1 is great when you go with someone on a Friday or Saturday. Otherwise forget it. I did see a really hot blond number but he was going to show w/ someone. So I left at 1:00 and went to Baths. It was ok. But it is not the way to make friends which is what I wanted to do.

I think I'll go out to local bars to try to meet some people. Pick up a TIMES sometime. See what's around. Or even try Studio 1 on weeknights. That's when I met Mike Root & Jimmy for whatever that's worth. Why didn't I ever call 'em?

So I got back at 5:00 AM SAT 7/9 went to sleep. Up at noon. Had breakfast. Tried to make appt at 1:00. But car wouldn't start. Tried to jumper it. Still nothing. So I went in Holiday Inn van to Redondo. Saw place & told Peter I would like to get it for $400.

He said he didn't think Alan would go for that. I was unhappy & without a car so I walked up & down Esplanade. Then I looked for another place for rent in San Simeon for $550. Then left and decided to call cab so I went to Pac Hwy & did so. Got back ~4 & arranged to get car fixed. Was towed & also asked MOBIS to do total diagnostic of whole car plus tune up & oil change for $24. Rented PINTO for $10.

Had dinner, then it was 7:00. I guess the only way I'd get my car tuned & looked over is if something goes wrong. Just like I didn't get contacts till I lost my glasses. I better see a dentist before my teeth fall out.

At 7 I called Alan to tell him I firmly wanted the apt. And he said he

thought $400 was too low but maybe we could work something out. He said he would discuss it & would call me back.

So till 8:00 I reviewed my thought & then started writing this, and have been till now except for 9-9:30 when I watched All in Family.

Tomorrow I want to go buy a calculator, get my finances in line, make my future financial estimates and try to justify my income & expenditures for last year. I will also try to write some closing pages on my year & 1/4 at MicroSoft & note anything left to be done. I will reorient myself to my current life & write out what I want to accomplish.

Alan did call back. $425 is ok if they don't rent it for $475 to anyone else tomorrow by 5:00. Now, BED. ----END----

Monday afternoon 5:00, July 11

Yesterday I started at 8:30 and worked on "cash spent" till 10; then till 12 I bought a calculator (financier) and groceries; then snack & work on checks till lunch & then work on money spent since I got back from SYKES. It checked out. The "cash spent" & check reports are in the stack on Holiday Inn Terrance stationery. Also there is my monthly prediction which comes to $1255. I will make 1220/mo after taxes so its about even. Also there is my report on money spent since SYKES June 30-July 10. I spent a lot of extra money. But that is past. I had a very good time w/ Chip, and I needed a calculator.

I have essentially the same deal with RMC as with uS. It was 19,000 at uS. With 5% inflation. That is 20K.

So my raise was about $3000, including the 1K for medical. Plus $400 it would cost me to medically insure myself. Plus profit sharing ~2000, & pension (if I ever see that). So that brings it to 25k at least. A $5,000 raise is good...

At this time I have with all past debts paid,

time I went to Stanford and the bank to uSoft, I earned quite a sum of money and spent it on lots of stuff. I think after I move in it would be wise to see how much of this I can account for. It was quite a homogenous year 1/2. Nothing changed much in my lifestyle throughout. Just try to see how I spent all that cash.

I don't think I have anything enlightening to say about this last spring 1/4 I think it was well timed & comfortable. I called Chip last night & He actually said he needs me in my def of need. I just told him to wait awhile. He's really excited about exercising. Doing it for me & himself, for us.

Today, MONDAY, all day I worked
