The next day Al Riconi called but Bill was not in so no one got the call. I told Elaine if he calls & Bill's not in let me have it. Tuesday he called & I got it. He said had gotten the bids, they were acceptable, no questions & he had recommeded one but could not tell us who.

So Tuesday afternoon April 17 I called RM. I got McFarland and he said to just send a resume. But then he called back about 10 minutes later and said he'd talked to Ryan and they'd like me to come out that weekend. That excited my whole afternoon. Thursday was my birthday and Chip bought me a cake with Pink Elephants on it. I got good presents from Mom & Dad (bear), Meg (sun visor), and Aunt Clara gave me a card with the rolling paper in it.

Then Friday Apr 22 night I went to L.A. Felt good. McFarland perked me up. Took me to

H. Inn. Rent-a-car was closed so could just stay there. But I guess that was good so I could get a full nights rest. Then I saw R & M next morning, then lunch, then went to see Beach Towns, then to Health Spa & back to H. Inn. Called R & told him will meet at 10:00 AM. Then relaxed dressed showered, dinner & off to 8709 baths. Then back to H. Inn & to sleep.

Sunday saw R & went over plans & EDITX and then went to Zuma Beach nude beach. Wasn't so great. Then to airport & back to ABQ & Chip.

Felt great last Monday (Apr 25) morning. Went to work & discussed matter with myself. Then w/ Bill. He asked as a favor that I stay till July 1.

Monday night was the TI celebration dinner so I was fairly freed up then. I decided I would ask Bill for RMs salary and my 6800 money.

Tuesday Apr 26 was discussion. It was very intense & sad. Bill claimed that I had promised to stay six months. But I made the argument that I only had to give 30 days notice. It got so bad he asked for his $4300 back. Then I said I would stay if he gave me RMs salary and the 6800 money. We finally compromised on the RM salary and $1500 of the 6800 money.

So Tuesday night was good. Chip & I saw Carrie & Lifeguard. Lifeguard's name was Rich.

Wednesday Apr 27 was cool and I spent the morning reviewing all this stuff and resolved that I would write it up soon here. Wednesday night did the spa and Thursday started thinking

what steps to take to bring all this to fruition, to make best use of it. I went over what I'd done & the question of whether I'd made best use of the past year, through April 16 or so. I thought I had. And the question of why I didn't stay with MicroSoft

1) I feel prevented from it. I did not feel like talking about it at the NCC, and was in a bad position after NCR in September. And in December I wanted to leave ABQ.

2) Micro Soft needs a competitor.

3) I need a cosmopolitan atmosphere to work in.

At this time there is no hope with [?] S, but there is with RM, so I resolve to do that, to make best use of that opportunity, etc. Then I went and did my errands. I also

chose the course of action on what to do with EDITX. I would call Kip and get things going. I finished Thursday morn by doing odds & ends, washing, cleaning, straightening up, etc.

Worked Thursday Apr 28 & night late and Friday Apr 29. Firday night chip and I went to late dinner & W of Oz and Foxes which is picking up for the spring. Got up sort of late, had br at Goody's then went to flee [flea] market and then I spent 12:30 - 4:30 at MS reading about small business. Finished it all except want to read past on corporations. Then to Fern's for lunch and spa. Got Jack Hayes address. See him Monday night at 10:00.

Then went to Delphinos w/ Chip and had good talk & dinner about games & roles & life. Then back to my house & "All that glitters." Today Sun May 1 Church and lying out in the sun reading Bus. Week and

reader's digest and went to flee [flea] market to pick up mom's necklace & then back here & wrote letters in the cloud and then writing this.

So that brings us up to date. Chip & I are very close buddies with plenty to do for the next 9 weeks. Then I leave & we realize our relationship gets tested. We have spent an awful lot of time together around NM. Spend all of most weekends together.

Now the plan is to do as much reading & thinking about computing as I can. Get EDX transferred & get ideas for working on it also, get El Paso excited. Think a lot about a forthcoming business of my own. Why not with MicroSoft? So I can compete. Also so I can make use

of R M's good name & resources. I think it will be interesting and I want to write in here very frequently, like every other day about it and my feelings on the whole thing.

Nothing has changed much since Thursday's thoughts on moving on EDITX except that I should give Kip Moore ammunition to win it for me. I will do that tomorrow. I have no new thought to write in here on business so I will leave that to the time that I get them. For now over the first two weeks of this 1/4, I have just gotten my modus operandi started and I'm ready to use it. Also did a [?], some reading, nego w/ Bill, trip to LA, lots of prayer, things w/ Chip. I think it's well rounded. Praise the Lord.

Wednesday morning, May 17

It's been a week and a half since last writing. I spent last Tuesday May 3 thinking about the RM EDITX purchase & how to set it up for me. On Thursday May 5 I worked on whether or not I want to be powerful and self-employed or to have a job and work for some one else. I decided on the former so that

1) I can reap profits since money is important to me

2) I feel bullish & like to feel bullish 40-50 hours a week

3) I don't want to be controlled. In any major company there are the people who run it. I want to be one of them.

4) I want to be personally involved in my work not just professionally.

After Tuesday of last week & coming up with a plan I decided to call RM and get my change of employment date fixed. Mc said no problem. I sent them EDITX info.

Since Thursday May 5 morning, I have been working on PET BASIC as much as possible. All weekend with little sleep and little food. I finally completed it early Tuesday morning except for a few functions like TIME and STATUS. But other than that it works very well. All powers of 10 print out exact. So I slept all day Tuesday (yesterday) as I did Monday and then went to work ~2 and got myself straightened out. Left at 7 and had good dinner and movie Annie Hall with Chip.

This morning Wed May 11 I washed, caught up on my reading and otherwise straightened up

Sat'day May 21

So I went to work Wednesday May 11 and worked out Wed night. Then I went to Foxes and went home with John Holland. Stayed up much too late as I had to be at work at 9:00. Stayed up till 2:00. Rather tired Thursday & went home early Thursday night. Thursday morn did TI & afternoon work on TIME & STATUS of the PET.

May 13 Woke up Fri morn with bad sore throat. Worked all day Friday on LOAD & variables. Friday night I was really tired but still went to dinner and to "Islands in the Stream." Saturday May 14 was done with breakfast by 11:00. Read from 11 till 2:30 LUNCH I think. MicroSoft deposition discussion from 3:30-5:30. Then out with Chip after dressing up to Ole Henry's Dinner Theater.

May 15 Sunday went to church & brunch & emergency room & then rest for the afternoon, some of it out in the sun. Sunday night Chip & I played cards.
