The number of illust. books printed by Hans Schobsser is not insignificant, but his cuts are either to be found in other Augsburg books or are copies. His earliest book , The Aesop (Schr 3031) has the woodcuts of Zainer's ed. The frontpiece of the Plenarium (Schr 4965) comes from Sorg's press & the 59 cuts were recut from those used by Martin Schott in Strassburg. The book was a success, as besides the ed. of 1487, Schobsser printed 2 others in 1490 (Schr 4968) & 1497 (Schr. 4976). but the same cuts are to be found in Sorg's ed. of 1493 too. (20 yrs) The 1st dated book known - a German Aesop of 20 July 1485, but no other dated book before 23 May 1487 is found. continued printing at Augsburg until 1498 when he moved to Munich & was still at work in 1500. He seems to have collaborated or been in some other way connected - Sorg. identical - 2 of Sorg's Types 109 - German text type 96 - German text type , 1st used [inserted]previously used by Schossperger[end inserted] 140 - title type in or about 1494. The Plenarium is a translation into the vernacular of the Gospel & Epistole readings of the Church year.

2nd Press Munich /the 3rd Munich printer) had printed at Augsburg as early as 1481, & produced his last book there in 1498 . 1500 - 1520 Munich.

This is the German translation of the Epistoles & Gospels, together - a glossary for the benefit of laymen who had no knowledge of Latin. It represents one of the earliest attempts to place the scriptures within reach of the people & because of their popularity they were literally read it to pieces & few copies have survived. -The Plenarium, a lay devotional text, contains translations of the Epistole & Gospel readings for the Mass throughout the year. The earliest printed editions of the German Plenarium were all produced in Augsburg. (Sorg., G Zainer, J. Bamler) - one of a distinct class of verbnacular devotional / service books, derived from the Missel, known as Plenaria. A Plenarium text contains translations of the Epistle & Gospel readings for the Mass throughout the church year, augmented - glasses & - moralizing stories drawn from the Bible & saints lives. Its purpose was to assist the layman in understanding the Latin service of the church. The earliest manuscript Plenaria appear to be Dutch , of the Latin 13th C. numerous 15th C editions of The Plenarium were printed in a variety of languages, but particularly in Dutch & German. Most of these were illust. - woodcuts. Begins - a discussion of priesthood, its vocations & vows , the duties of the bishop etc. Also treated are the church & chapel for the Mass , consecration, desecration etc. A subsequent chapter deals extensively - vestments. The principal parts of the mass are quoted both in the original Latin & in this 1st German translation. It is the vernacular language of the esposition which make it a remarkable document of medeival religious history.
