Dear Sir,-

The Trustees of Mount Auburn today chose James Derby, Jr. as Gatekeeper for the remainder of Mr. Safford's year---upon a salary of four hundred dollars.

It was also voted, "[?] the additional sum of 75 dlr per week be paid him to enable him to compensate a substitute whom he shall procure to him from his duties as Gatekeep one half of every Sabbath. Said substitute must (in the judgment of the Committee on Interments and the Superindent) be as [?] and competent as Mr. Derby.

The Trustees also adopted the recommendation of the Special Comee upon Mr. Spooner's communication-in termsto accede to Mr. Spooner's his relinquishment of the office of Gardener, and that the Treaurer be authorized to cancel the lease with Mr. Spooner, upon a full settlement of all amounts due the Corporation from Mr. Spooner, and a surrender by him in good order of the leased premises:-

that the office of Gardener be abolished, and that the care and superintendence of lots be committed to the Superintendent in such manner and under such directions as the Trustees shall prescribe.

The carrying out the above orders was committed to Messrs Andrews, Rand & Cheever (the old Comee) with power to make such purchases and arragements as may be necessary in the premises.

At the meeting of the Trustees held this day the following vote was adopted:—

"That a grant of two hundred dollars ($200) be made in addition to the regular salary of the Superintendent for the present year."

P.S. To satisfy the Treasr, you will please add to every certif. you issue, under the amt to be paid by the person for his land the words " $2 for deed " & record", the fees for making same having been this day increased to that level.

or too full in the explanation of matters which are quite unfamiliar to most of those for whose benefit it is intended. The Trustees may not need this presention of these views for their individual enlighten-- ment; but there are few others who have no such need.—

What I wish is that the subject may be referred to the Committee on Lots, unless a Special Comee should be preferred, with full power to issue an address to the proprietors on this subject.— or that the Secretary under the direction of the Committee on Lots be authorized to address the proprietors in the name of the Trustees on the subject of the perpetual preservation of their lots.

Trustee process has been served upon attaching the wages of Jas. Derby to the extent of $20 & Wm Powers, a laborer to the amt of $50.— Also Geo. Hazlett, I think after you paid, last month I will see what time.—

Will you please return by bearer a check payable to my order for $237.50, for which I send the accompanying receipts.
