At a meeting of the Garden & Cemetery Committee, held present Mr Bond, Dr Bigelow and Mr Pratt--

Tremont House.

An application by the Proprietors of Tremont House, for a grant of land to erect a Tomb upon, was considered, and it was,-- Voted that this Committee cannot accede to the request of the Proprietors of Tremont House-

Circular Letter & Subscription

Voted that Mr Bond & the Secretary be a Committee to prepare a circular letter and to employ a proper person to distribute it and obtain subscribers for cemetery lots, if the Comeedecree it expedient--

Hagerston Gardener.

Voted that Genl Dearborn make an agreement with Hagerston to be the Superintendant & Gardener at Mt Auburn, for one year from 1st March 1833 at a salary not exceeding six hundred dollars--

Voted that Gen: Dearborn be a Committee to confer with Mr James W. Russell and to conclude an engagement with him as Superintendant of the Garden & Cemetery at Mount Auburn, for one year from and for such further time not exceeding two years as the Garden & Cemetery Committee shall desire it, at the salary of $ 600 a year payable quarterly — Voted that Dr Bigelow & Mr Bond be a Commee to have the gate repainted, and the inscription to be removed and replaced with larger letters if they see fit —

Catalogue

Voted that Mr Bond & Mr Curtis be a Committee to prepare a Catalogue of the Lots & Proprietors' name for publication, and a list of changes for interment &c -

Bills to be paid

Voted that the Treasurer be authorized to pay the following ^bills.D. Haggerston for waggon & harness - W. Horne for carpenter's work &c - F. & J. Winhips for plants &c.

Articles of Agreement made this by and between the Massachusetts Horticultural Society a Corporation duly established by law in Massachusets, and David Haggerston of Charlestown, Gardener

This said Haggerston for the consideration hereinafter mentioned hereby agrees with the said Society for and during the term of one year from & after the first day of March next to perform all the duties belonging to the Office of Gardener and Superintendent of the Garden & Cemetery at Mount Auburn, to conform himself in all things to the Rules & Regulations prescribed by the Garden and Cemetery Committee, hereunto annexed, and which are hereby made a part of this agreement, and further to do and perform all such other duties in relation to the said Garden & Cemetery as shall from time to time be assigned^to him by the said Committee.

And the said Haggerston further agrees to keep true & just accounts in books provided for that purpose by the said Committee, of all monies received by him for burial fees, and for labor performed by him or under his directions in the said Cemetery, and also of all monies produced by the sale of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees from the said Garden, and at all times, when thereunto required, to exhibit the said books & accounts and to render true and accurate statements to the said Society or their said Committee; and to quit & deliver up the Cottage & other premises occupied by him, at the termination of this contract, in as good order as they are put into for him, reasonable wear & use & casualties excepted;—

And the said Society, in consideration of the premises hereby agree with the said Haggerston to pay to him the yearly sum of six hundred dollars in equal quarterly payments on the first day of June the first day of Septemeber, the first day of December and the first day of March; and also to give him the free and full use and enjoyment of the Cottage erected at Mount Auburn.

In Witness whereof the said Society have caused this instrument to be subscribed by their President, and the said David Haggerston has hereunto set his hand the day & year first above written.
