Sîʿ

On our arrival at Sîʿ, it was decided to remain long enough to make a survey of the mountain, of the town, which has never been mentioned in any publication, and of the sacred precinct; to make such excavations as were necessary to determine the full plan of the Temple of Baal Shalmin, of the Theatron or forecourt and the buildings about it, and of the 2 outer courts and the buildings upon them.

It was also decided to have a careful examination made of the gate of the Theatron and of the 2nd gate both by excavations and by a systematic piecing together of all of the fallen parts.

The services of 5 Druses were engaged for the work of carrying fallen building stones and of digging wherever necessary. Three days were devoted on this work, a large number of squeezes were made and ample measurements were taken for making full plans and illustrations of all the pre Roman buildings
