property of the Bridlington Harbour Commissioners and ought not to have returned as Wreck - Be so good as to see Mainprize with a view to adjustment of the amount he should be paid for his trouble and the Timber given up. J.S.

No 3905 - Ref 12 April 1856 Sec Marine Dept - Board Trade London 4 June/56 Sir With reference to my letter of the 11 april last and 10th Ulto - on the subject of appointing Deputy Receivers of Wreck in this District (registered in your department as above) I beg to acquaint you that the district of Capt. Metcalfe who is the Inspecting Commander of the Coast at Bridlington and resides there, takes in the whole of Flamborough Head and extends southwards Marginalia further on 35

42 to Withernsea - within that space of Coast he has three Lieuten ants under him viz. Lieutenant Stubbins at Flambro --------"------- Shacklock Bridlington Quay and -"------- Stewart Hornsea and the Lt. Poynter who resides at Patrington is the Inspecting Commander of the Coast Guard from Withernsea southward round Spurn Point into the Humber - as far as Victoria Dock Hull - consequently they are much better able to look after Wreck property on the Coast - and to take examinations of Masters or other persons who may land from stranded Vessels, than I am - who reside twenty miles from the Coast - where I have the charge of a large port, - and am loaded with the performance of highly responsible duties. I will therefore thank you to pay to me the gross proceeds thereof - with an account of such charges as you may have against each article - As I propose being at Bridlington on Wednesday next probably you will have the goodness to prepare the account by that time.
