copy of this was sent from Marine Department 7/1/56 I think the receiver is clearly entitled to the £2 for one Days attendance and his expenses in detaining exceeding a Bond &c and subsequently allowing the [Arva?] to proceed to Sea, the Ship having been detained at the request of the Salvors the payment of these charges should be enforced. I think this should be referred to the Solicitor to enforce the Bonds if practicible copy of this was sent to Solicitor of Customs.

To the Secretary Marine Department Board Trade London C.H.H. 16 Jany 1856 Sir With reference to paragraph of Wreck Instruction No 8b which directs that the report Book and Returns are to commence on the 1st October 1855 with a new Droit number commencing with No 1 -- I will thank you to inform me whether the numbers are to run for a year -- or whether I am to commence with a new number each quarter. [Marginalia :noted in different color ink, in column next to above] The Receiver of wreck for the Bridlington District is informed in reply to his letter of the 16 Janry that the report Book is to commence with a new number at the beginning of each year. dated 2 February 1856 ________________________________________ Hornsea 15 Janry 1856 Sir I have an opportunity of disposing of Some of the Droits of Admiralty at this Station and wait your permission so to do -- your kind reply will oblige. Mr J. Stephenson Bridlington Quay Dr Sir C.H.H. 30 Janry 1856 I enclose a claim from Messrs Bramble for anchor & chn-148/1854 as I am unable to determine the amount of Rent due - and know not the amount of Salvage claimed by John Wallis the finder. I have referred them to you - To enable you to adjust the matter I also enclose your account of anchors & C in the admiralty yard - Mr Shacklock - who is here for Surgical advice is getting better and will be at Bridlington in a few Days In the mean oblige by furnishing particulars to yours truly J. With Messrs Brambles claim there is a letter from Mr John Kennedy which must be answered to their Declaration, and which as the form shows, must be made before a magistrate J. S. at what periods of the year was your father in the habit of having sales when I took the account & sheets from you I enclose two sheets which are exact copies of your Book, the Board of Trade desired me to have a sale immedialety after the 7th June next which would clear off all the old stock, Mr Shacklock who is here for advice,- wishes to have a sale now, or in the course of a month,- which would then leave some few things on hand to be accounted for -[The] He says the Salvors want a Sale- what has hitherto been the practise J.S.

was prepared in accordance with the form [in ] at page 44 of Instructions- in which the words both "Expenses" and "Costs" are a part- I beg to bring the Subject under your notice in order that- a fresh form of Bond- not only to myself but to other Receiver's of Wreck- may be supplied J.S.

H. 30/1/56 Dr Sir As I am in formed that I am not to have anything for my trouble I can with perfect freedom promise you 2 1/2 per cent of any profits- However much; you and I may disapprove of this arrangement- I fear we shall be obliged to carry out the Act as directed- But all out of pocket expenses will be allowed, see paragraph 7b of Instructions in Red Book.
