My dear Brother,

This evening the spirit moveth me to pen a few lines to you both for my own pleasure, and that of Frances who is now lying on the bed near by. Last Saturday I left the "B District," having finished my duties there. School closed on Friday, noon. You may feel somewhat anxious to know something of the "Last day" there. I had rather not give you an account of it my self, but looking upon you as I do, and feeling that you are as my self in those matters interested I will not forbear mentioning to you. Those things I know you feel anxious to hear, viz. How did I close my school. As you well know the weather was very unpleasant, however there were present 26 scholears, 12 spectators, (a larger number than is common for that place) so say the people of the place why they were induced to come I know not unless it be to see the cruel wretch, that has seazed the sceptor over the dear ones. My Jackson gave me much more praise than I had dreamed myself worthy of. He then pronounced the order perfect; their progress much greater than could have been expected. Frank says he considered it the best examination he ever attended in that place. I wish for no more, I only wish it were due, and should I ever teach again I hope I may be more faithful in the discharge of my duties, and be worthy of the praise confered on me

in this case. The people of the District in general treated me with great respect, during the last weeks, and showed marks of increasing interest interest in the school, although I did not lay aside all corporeal punishment, or loosen the reins in the least. Not a few have told me they think I have ill treated, and wondered how it is I have got along, and not have given up the school. Sometimes I wonder what a change has come over me within a year, for I am confident that a year since I should have given up in dispair but I am rejoiced that I did not, for it has been to me the best school I ever attended, and the remuneration I am to receive, I value much less than the dicipline of this summer.

But I will say no more of this now but answer all enquiries next week, should ^things go as I wish them. Frances is now unable to attend school and has been for more than a week. She continues to be up and around, but complains greatly of her head. Her school closes on Thursday, and should she be able, we intend to visit Boston next week if it is convenient for you and Mrs K. Will you inform her and then write me, I anticipate much pleasure in this visit, and F-- often says she wants greatly to see you and should have written you before had she the time. Her time is well occupied in school, and domestic affairs at home in which she shars as one of the children. She is very happy here, and anxious to stay, and Mr J-- is disirous she should, and in all probability she will. I shall feel it a great privilege if she is permitted to. Frances requests me to ask you if Frances K has returned from Tewksbury?

You have mentioned in one of your late letters that AB would probably be in B - when I was there. Do you think she will?

I am waiting with patience to receive an answer from her, for for I wish to write her and persuade her if possible to be in B-- at the same time, for I wish much to see her. Do try and have J-- persuade her to this plan, for it seems an age since I saw her. I not only should like to see her but J-- as a kind friend, as nothing more, for as such I still value him, and I trust you do ere this. Remember me to him, and to all, -- to L Bates should she chance enquire after me.

Have you ever written to Hiram respecting the plan I mentioned I have now made bold to broach the subject to him, or any thing to Mr J-- He spoke of going to school next winter, thought if I intended to get married so soon it would be hardly worth the while. What I was to infer from this remark is to me a mystery. By the way I had a call from CF-- last week

But let me lay aside these things till I see you. If L Brown is in Boston tell her I have been expecting a letter from her this long time, or having seen her before this. Please answer this as soon as possible that I may make my plans accordingly. I will with Frances bid you "Good night"

Your affectionate sister, M Augusta French.
