JUNE 1944

4 Sun-Trinity Sunday Very windy day. Went to sunday school in morning and taught primary. Revised history in the afternoon. Went to chapel in evening. Taffy Arther and Betty were there. They came in to supper and Elsie too.

5 Mon Not a very nice day. Had fairly nice lessons at school. Had some nasty French homework. Learnt history most of the evening and stiched the buttons on my blouse.

6 Tues-Trinity Law Sittings begin Full Moon 6.58 p.m. THE SECOND FRONT BEGAN. Wet cold day. Had nice lessons at school and did gym. Revised in evening. Colin & Ted popped in for a short time Betty Elsie Taffy & Arthur came in. Poor Arthur has been posted.

7 Wed Cold day. Had a very nice science lesson doing practical. Had a history test in afternoon on Boer Wars. Nice evening. Got my homework done quickly and picked strawberries and drove tractor.

JUNE 1944

8 Thur Fairly nice day. Betty Ambrose away from school. Did not go in swimming. Did maths in free lesson. Had a easy French test in afternoon. Finished school. Got Blouse in evening - Only 2 RAF at bible class Taffy & Leslie.

9 Fri Cold rainy day. Did not go to school as did not feel very well. Helped Mummy in morning with the bedroom cleaning Started to do another darn for school cert but it was a failure. Did a little revision. Ted came in evening.

10 Sat - Italy entered War, 1940 s.r. 3.43, s.s. 8.15 Cold windy day. Helped Mummy in morning and went to Sutton and did all the errands. Got washed and changed in afternoon and did some more revision. Taffy came and drove the tractor in afternoon and evening.

Thoroughly hardened plants of Ridge Cucumbers, Marrows and Tomatos may now be planted out in suitable positions. The present is a good time for sowing Carrots for storing. Continue to plant Cabbages for late summer supplies.

Cold Districts.-Sow Turnips for storing. Plant early Cauliflowers and Brussels Sprouts for latest supplies.

JUNE 1944

11 Sun-1st after Trinity S. Barnabas Quite a nice day. Went to S School in morning and taught primary. Revised in afternoon. Went to chapel in evening. Daddy preached. Brought Taffy Betty Bill George and Jenny in to supper.

12 Mon Nice day. Went to school. Had all [?] in history. Had a nice science lesson. Had all revision homework Colin popped in at tea time. Did homework most by the evening and had a darn Taffy came and drove [trac]

13 Tues - Last Quarter 3.56 p.m. Rained in morning but was fine later on. Made a meat stew in cookery. Had to have gym instead of games. Had Got all my maths done in free lesson. Aunstie Kitty came to stay the night. Revised History in evening.

14 Wed Fairly nice day. Had a nice science lesson. Went out in dinner hr and got Margo a birthday card. Had a history test on the Dual monarchy. Colin Gilbert and Ernest have finished their ops. Picked strawberries with Taffy in evening.

JUNE 1944

15 Thur Did not go to school as was not well. Mummy took me to Doctors who gave me some medicine. Colin went on leave. Picked strawberries in morning and in evening with Taffy.

16 Fri Very windy day. Did not go to school again. Picked strawberries in morning with 2 our crew. Mrs Harmen came for lunch. Betty came in evening & picked strawberries. Taffy came & hoed, I hoed too.

17 Sat - Collapse of France, 1940 s.r. 3.42, s.s. 8.19 Cold windy day. Picked strawberries all the morning Got changed in afternoon and did some revision.

Reserve a few plants at the end of the row of Peas and all kinds of Beans to provide seeds for next year's sowing requirements. Pinch out tops of Broad Beans when in full flower. Asparagus should not be cut after this date. Sow Coleworts and Garden Swedes, and make the last sowing of Peas.

Cold Districts. - Plant out Ridge Cucumbers, Marrows and Tomatos.

JUNE 1944

18 Sun - 2nd after Trinity Lovely day. Went to Sunday School in morning and taught [primary] Went to Sunday School in afternoon and afterwards went for a walk with [Rona] went to Fry's to tea. Went to chapel in evening Betty, Elsie and Taffy came in to supper.

19 Mon Quite a nice day. Went to school Had notes in history and had a nice science lesson. Prepared my menue for practical cookery exam in afternoon. Went to Sutton in evening and then got everything ready for my exam.

20 Tues - New Moon 5.0 p.m. Quite a nice day. Got ready for my cookery exam when I got to school & had it at eleven. I made stew & potatoes and chocolate pudding. Didn't get on too badly. Had lessons as usual in the afternoon Taffy came in evening.

21 Wed - Longest Day Cold windy day. Had quite a nice science lesson and a horrible English test. Did not have a history test in afternoon. Wore my school cert. blouse stayed in all the evening & did homework.
