DECEMBER 1943

5 SUNDAY Went to Sunday School in morning and taught primary. 5 away with measles. Went to Sunday School in afternoon. Olive is now living at Grandma's Did homework in evening.

6 MONDAY Foggy all day. Missed Had some very hard trig homework and spent four lessons trying to do it. Had some easy French homework. Taffy and Sergt. Hemsley came in evening. We played games and sang.

7 TUESDAY Made some queer shortbread biscuits in cookery which were very nice. 3d Had two singing practises. and quite a nice Geography lesson did homework all the evening.

8 WEDNESDAY Mummy went to Aldreth for the day and brought back some gooseberry and current cuttings. Had a History test. Received a lovely long letter from George. He has started ops again. The hens started to lay

9 Thursday Kitty Hadders Funeral Very foggy day. Betty's birthday. We sent her a card. Had pirates in gym. Had one singing practise. Listened to Itmar and played some duets with Daddy in evening.

10 FRIDAY Fog cleared but still very cold. Had a massed singing rehersal first lesson Got on all right in needlework, but found I had done one sleeve all wrong so had to undo it. Played hockey in afternoon.

11 SATURDAY Helped Mummy all the morning and made a batch of biscuits. Had a bath in afternoon and did some homework Clarence came to tea and supper. He is now at Witchford.

DECEMBER 1943

12 SUNDAY Went to Sunday School in morning and taught primary. Only 7 there. Went to Sunday School in afternoon. Had Mr Hare for dinner and tea. Olive came to tea Went to Chapel in evening and went carol singing afterwards.

13 MONDAY Very cold. Had our places given us for speech day. Had five free lessons at school as Miss Borrugh and Miss Baird away. Got 20 lines from Miss Defew. Listened to Monday Night at Eight.

14 TUESDAY Very cold and foggy. Had break as soon as we got to school and then went to cinema for a rehersal. Spent all the morning there. After dinner. Went straight to the cinema after dinner for prize giving. Mummy and Daddy came. Did homework in evening.

15 WEDNESDAY Very cold. No fires at school When we arrived but the coal soon came. Had to have French instead of Science & posted a letter to George. Had a History test in the afternoon.

16 THURSDAY Betty away from School. Did weather maps in Geography. Saw live plays acted in the afternoon which were very good. Listened to Itmar and did needlework.

17 FRIDAY Betty still away. Got on alright in needlework. Did not have hockey. But played rounders and pirates instead. Hump came in afternoon while we were at school.

18 SATURDAY Very rough Helped Mummy. all the morning. Had a bath and afternoon and did needlework. Sergt Hemsley took us to a super concert in the evening. We got soaked coming home.

DECEMBER 1943

19 SUNDAY Went to Sunday School in morning and taught primary. Seven there again. Went to Sunday School again in afternoon. Went to Constables to Thetford for tea. Went to the service in the evening.

20 MONDAY Janet not very well so she did not go to school. Betty back at school again. Did not do much all day. Got a pair of stockings in the dinner hour. Had a carol service and plays which weren't too bad in the afternoon.

21 TUESDAY Janet did not go to school. We broke up at 12 o'clock. Janet and I put the decorations up in the afternoon. Hump came for tea. He played games with us in the evening but had to go at 7.30 pm

22 WEDNESDAY Cold and windy. Janet went to Ely with Daddy in the morning. I helped Mummy. Went to Sutton in the afternoon and did all the errands. Made a calendar and nearly finished a pixie hat in evening.

23 THURSDAY Helped Mummy in the morning. Started making a writing case for George for Xmas in afternoon and nearly finished my pixie.

24 FRIDAY Very cold. Went to Sutton and peeled the potatoes for Xmas day. Stayed a Grandma's for dinner. Got all my sweet ration from Mr Cravens. Finished present for George in evening.

25 SATURDAY Christmas Day Had a lovely lot of presents in the morning including 3 diaries and £1 from M & D. Went to Grandma's for dinner & tea and played games in the evening. Had a lovely time and did not get home till 1. o'clock

DECEMBER 1943

26 SUNDAY Got up very late so did not go to Sunday School but went to Chapel with Daddy. Auntie Marion and Ian came up for tea. Went to Chapel in evening with Mummy & Daddy. Brought Taffy and George home with us. *

27 MONDAY Boxing Day Helped Mummy in the morning. Went to Auntie Connie's for tea and supper. Two RAF boys were there and we played games all the evening. Got home at 1.30 AM.

28 TUESDAY Helped Mummy in the morning Wrote some letters. Mummy wrote to George. Brian came up in afternoon Daddy and I spent evening arranging a programme of games for Saturday

29 WEDNESDAY Quite a cold day. Helped Mummy in the morning. Janet and I walked up to Sutton in afternoon and went to Roger's for tea. M & D came in evening. Got home at 11.30 pm

30 THURSDAY I Cleaned my bedroom in the morning. Mummy and Janet went to Ely. I stayed at home and cooked the dinner and made some biscuits. Wrote some more letters.

31 FRIDAY Helped Mummy in the morning. Made a meat pie for the party and decorated it with planes. Went to Sutton in afternoon Had a bath when I came back. Wrote several more letters. Fred Hemsley came in the evening. Went to bed early.
