considerable sums of money have been paid for work already done. It is to be recollected that these Contracts were entered into by virtue of a vote of the Trustees passed in & - which was adopted by seven members out of nine, & sanctioned by their written approval - an unprecedented unprecedented formality of this Board; - and Since then, two elections of Trustees have taken place, at which all those members who voted for the purchase of Statuary - who did not voluntarily withdraw for their own convenience - were rechosen by the Proprietors; -

The majority of the Committee are of opinion that is is expedient to go on with the Contracts made for the acquisition of the three Statues of John Winthrop, James Otis and John Adams;- And they are also of opinion that in future that all appropriations for the embellishment and improvement of the Cemetery be restricted to such objects as may be deemed essential;-

Capt. D.L. Winsor

Dear Sir,

I send a note from Dr Lawrence. --

Will you tomorrow send a certificate of the lot on Harebell Path by mail, to "Edward F. Hall Jr. 21 Kelley St. Boston."

He is about to leave the city, & wishes to pay for it.

Will you also examine, and advise me how much to offer for lot no. 2485, Spruce Ave, David B. Gray -- how much for lot, and how much for fence, in separ-- ate items. I am about to write him. He resides at the west. -- Write tomorrow, if you can. --

Yours truly

A.J. Coolidge

Send me a leaf of that certificate book.

6 P.M. Capt Winsor

Dear Sir

Miss Harriet G. Hosmer, the great sculptress is here and, at her request, I wish to make an appointment with you to meet her and her friends tomorrow morning about 10 o'clock, to look for a lot in some prominent place, where she can erect a bronze statue to her late father, Dr Hosmer, preparatory ^in connection with which she will probably dispose of her old lot no. 367 at the north end of Narcissus Path (Forrest Pond) as that place is unsuited for such a purpose. --

I told her we could take her old lot, privately, and give her as much, as she would otherwise get.

Jas. Lawrence Esq.r

Dear Sir,

Upon the application of Dr Lawrence in behalf of himself brother & yourself for a relocating of your lot in the Cemetery, presented to the Trustees last Monday, the subject was referred to the Com. on Lots, who have decided to grant your request, by giving deeds anew to the parties, they first reconveying their lots to the Corporation. If you will send or bring your deed I will prepare transfer for your signature.

I had supposed we should effect it by a change of the plans, but that arrangement did not appear to suit Dr Lawrence.

Very Respy. yours

A.J. Coolidge Sec.y
