Dr. Donald W. Harward Vice President for Academic Affairs The College of Wooster Wooster, Ohio 44691
Dear Dr. Harward:
Thank you for your kind letter of November 15 informing me of the Drushal Distingushed Professorship, a visiting senior appointment at your institution for the 1989-90 academic year. It certainly sounds like an attractive position for a visiting scholar, and I appreciate your inviting me to send along a copy of my vitae. I regret that I have already commited my services for the 1989-90 academic year, and I will be unable to entertain a nomination for the appointment.
I hope that you are successful in finding a scholar who will effectively fulfill the obligations of the position.
Sincerely, [signed] David C. Driskell David C. Driskell

THE COLLEGE OF WOOSTER Wooster, Ohio 44691 November 15, 1988
Mr. David C. Driskell Department of Art University of Maryland College Park College Park, MD 20742
Dear Mr. Driskell:
We are pleased that the Drushal Distinguised Professorship, a visiting senior appointment, will be open for the academic year 1989-90 and we write to invite your consideration of the possibility of spending a year with us. We would be delighted to have you consider applying.
I have taken the liberty of enclosing some descriptive materials about the College.
In addition to an attractive compensation package, Wooster could make available:
-- a furnished apartment for the Drushal Professor and his/her spouse for the year -- office and clerical support normally available to Wooster faculty members -- support for travel to professional meetings -- a reasonable teaching load (approximately two courses each semester), details would be negotiated -- a collegial context and highly qualified and interested students and faculty
The area of academic discipline is open. Wooster will encourage the Drushal Professor to participate in the affairs of the College and provide, during the year, an open seminar or address for the College community.
If the idea seems at all possible, I would appreciate learning of your interest and receiving a copy of your vitae. Our search committee would like to discuss possibilities in late November.
Thank you for considering the request; we would be very pleased to have you apply.
Sincerely yours,
D W H [signature] Donald W. Harward Vice President for Academic Affairs
