My dear Mr Hassall,
I have your letter of the 20th ultimo & have to thank you for your kindness in securing me two good pups, they will now be three weeks old & I think might with safety be sent up either end of next week say next Saturday week, or if you think this too soon, the Saturday after. Be sure & let me know a day or two before you send them & I will meet them myself.

I note your remark in re stipend. We can talk the matter over the next time you come home We are I fear in for another drought - country about here looking very dry & heat most oppressive.
With our [indecipherable] kind regards Yours truly Edwd [indecipherable]

My dear Mr Hassell I have your last from [Gatton?] & regret exceedingly that you should have again been in the district without being able to pay us a visit. Not state fair I am sure you must admit I think my £15 - last year entitled me to a fair share of visits & until something is done to ensure me the same I must refuse to give my further support. If we are to support a Missionary I will do so with pleasure, but I do not see why I should be asked to give so much annually for that which benefits others & does me no good at all.
