1:00 AM In a sense I did a small DBMS "kernel" after I left: sort. But I didn't have to design it, I easily sensed sort's design though and translated it to C, and shape and refined what IBM & I wanted. But had the design not been there, I wouldn't have had interest in it. And with that finished, I left systems languages behind me.

I cannot design a good DBMS because the problems it is intended to solve just don't turn my crank. So I don't appreciate (as much as I'd have to) the needs of customers for a DBMS.

And the next question is: do I want to help someone who can conceptualize and manipulate all the issues, to build a DBMS? I'm quite sure that I can help, but it seems from sort and from Works' SS interface & work printing, that I can only translate. And that's not gonna be possible w/DBMS.

5:00 Write progress report.

6:30 Write note to myself on what to do to get back into printing, after Tahoe.

7:00 Go home, but to church instead.

7:30 Fortunately, I remember to pee first, but I get quite hungry since I didn't have dinner!! and I have really start to question going:

1) Pastor's aside that we write congressmen to cut defense budget to give money to the poor

2) Do songs of lovef & faith carry meaning to me?

3) Do I view communion as a ritual that I don't really relate to?

8:30 After communion, I was very hungry and yet had to stay t hrough announcements.

1) Church politics: anti gay

2) Organizational: subscribe to church news.

I guess organized religion is not really for me, but I should do something spiritual...Even reading Dancing in the Light would uplift me. I need spiritual growth, not politics & organizational troubles, and unmeaningful (to me) phrases (salt of the earth, reconcile to God, even heaven & hell.)

8:45 Finally we get to go out. Bill Farrell has already left. Talk to Rick U about going skiing. Go home. Have bread, soupe, apple

5:00 Go to parent for dinner. Nice talk about money & wills & Meg. Good to get them talking & thinking about my Microsoft shares a bit.

9:30 Go to work via Hillcrest for Emycin refill.

10:00 Work all day on keyboard except for after noon's big resync. Spent time clarifying F8 & grow problem due to shifting act cell around since it must be in corner when extending

9:45 Go home. Call up John & Dan.

10:15 Go get Vitamin C and watch 20/20 about AIDS. A little Joan Rivers too

11:15 Go home eto bed.

6:30 Get up. Normal routine. Laundry. Three loads! Called Tahoe 12-18" new snow. Called Henry K to tell him next Friday was going to be our day to go night ski. Finish cleaning up after Extra Hands. Read WSJ about arresting 3 top officials at Goldman Sachs & Kidder Peabody. What is "insider trading"? Who can do it? Just securities industry officials who broach customers confidence? Or can I based on knowing when prodcuts will come out, or other big news? Change sheets. Read Doug Casey Predictions 87. Big bear on real estate. And on stocks - pretty qualitative but interesting, though brief. Make & eat lunch. Replace old Jockey shorts with 9 new ones. Throw out the old ones. Threw out all white socks with holes. So clothing is much better now. Finish Casey, miscellaneous sections. Do yesterday's & todays mail. Take out garbage. Water plants

1:45 Go get ski bag. Notice that Henry K's boot rack fits my boots, but I need a wing nut which I got from City Peoples Mercantile. Skis fit ski bag. So all I have to carry are ski bag, boots, ski clothes bag and other clothes bag...Not that much.

2:45 Mom calls, snack.

3:00 Go to work a while. En route, I wonder why I'm going:

1) I'm not going to do progress report since I can do one Monday after I return and that will be more upbeat since I'll be getting back into it Tuesday

2) Today must be a day off technically as far as schedule is concerned, so it looks funny if I go in just for a short while. Only bad thing is I should've told 'em. Since I did Saturday type stuff today and I'm taking whole weekend off in Tahoe.

3) If I go in I may get bad news or bad vibes if I tell Tony keyboard stuff won't be completely done this week.

4) The coding is all done, so I feel free of it. There's nothing for me to gain by going in.
