Cloudy & Rain.

68 Ther. Sunday, July 22d, 1894. N.E. Wind.

It commenced raining about 2 o.clk this a.m. & and rained about an hour, it began again after sun rise and continued more or less all day, but only a sort of "drizzle" most of the time, at sunset I found dust or dry earth in the garden two inches under the surface. Mr. Robt Marshall & the two little Hallowell boys from "Marden" drove down for advice & medicine for Mr. Marshall. I did not get to meeting today. It is very refreshing to see rain again after the dry weather we have had for more than a month past. All vegitation seems to be rejoicing

Ther. 66° Monday, 23d NE Wind.

This has been a rainy day. Beatrix Tyson called for me to go & see Mrs Marshall's infant again. I rode to "Marden" on horseback & found the child very sick with "cholera infanteum." I asked for a consultation & Mr Marshall "wired" for his brother (a Washington physician). I went again at 3 - p.m. and again after supper to meet Dr Marshall, the infant having improved during the day very much under the treatment I had proposed in the morning.

Ther. 68 Tuesday, July 24th, 1894. Wind.

I drove up to "Marden" again to see the Marshall infant. I found it much improved since I saw it yesterday morning. Dr Marshall returned to Washington this morning after I was there. I also drove down to Ashton. Edwd took "Frank" horse to T. Clark's shop to be shod. Afternoon a meeting of the trustees of our public school was held in my office, at which Miss Schreiver's resignation was read & accepted & Miss Ella M Henderson's application for the position of teacher was acted upon & she was appointed. We had a heavy shower about 4.o.clk Edwd went to the Bank to practice type writing.

Ther 71 Wednesday, 25th Wind.

Much warmer weather. I drove up to "Marden" to see the Marshall infant again. Wrote to Charley enclosing order from R [Rollins] Jr. mailed by 2.o clk stage. Base ball match in Mary Gilpin's field between "Sandy Spring" & "Highland" 37 to 12 in favor of the latter. They have succeeded in getting the telephone line open from the central office to Dr Brooke's and talked over it this afternoon. Edwd went to the base ball game. It has been very hot today but no thunder storm as yet, at bed time as I expected there would have been.

70. Clear Thursday. July 26th Variable Jilqlimawellitchells team brought us a 1/2 cord of seasoned oakwood for which are paid 1.50 cash. Chai and Bend also sent 1/2 cord of dry chestnutwood. I drove over to "Riverside" to see bro: Richard [?] Dora went with me to Eldon where left her"" I called to see cousin Hannah [? ]at "Homewood' as I returned. Dora walked home towards evening. Edud & I put the wood in the wood house We heard the first " Katendids" this evening which is [?] earlier than usual I believe.

71 Clear Friday 27th SW Wind Mr. Jeremiah P. Ailver and Deerbreek Hanford ? : called this morning to see us Robert, H, Miller bringing ? Mr ? is one of the trustees of the State Agricultural college. Yesterday & today have been oppressively hot to [unclear] [] the atmosphere causing us tof? it more than when it was [ ?] yesterday and about the same today. Afternoon Edad [ [ ?] ]your to Eldon" to take some articles of clothing to his aunt Harriet. H & ? did some ironing today notwithstanding the hot weather. [] tea here. 76 Clear Saturday July 28th S.W [] was the moment [] have had this [] at 6 o clock am call. Afternoon sister Lizzie called. Edwd took the Robison [] over to Riverside for a []Read letters [][] Mr. Hallawell. Wrote to Roland Moore at " Lara Va: enclosine resipe after supper & went up to the store for some []

76 Clear Sunday 29th Another hot day but [[]]from the NW enables us to be on the []after breakfast Edwd took [] better, after breakfast Edwd took up to E Peiress Y left her, to attend [] this afternoon . He went after her (after dinner) as Grady helped me [[]] Robinson's house where the linesmen left the wired again binding on the corner of the house. I wrote to Charley to JH Bordeu & Moore Jr. I mailed the letters. We [] a thunder gust about 5 O'clock to Dora & Edwd got home about dark after the storm was over, but it was still raining.

Ther. 68o Clear Monday Tuesday Monday July 30th 1894. S.W. Wind. There were threatened thunder gusts all through last night. Mrs Henderson sent Ha setting (15) eggs which she put under a hen on the kitchen porch Dora & I put up wires on front porch for the honeysuckle to run over. Alice Peirce drove over after noon to spend the night She & Dora went to [Bleunc] field to take tea. Edward went down after supper to come home with them. John Green was here to see me. It looked very much like a gust this afternoon, but has not come yet at bed time. I went to the mill for horse feed and flour, Reed, letters from Charlie & Millie the former enclosing a check for $25.00 . We had another gust about 5.oclock. quite severe. but not much rain

Ther. 68 Clear Tuesday 31 st Wind S.E. I drove down to Ashton after breakfast Received letters from Charley and Willie Charley's letter enclosing a check for $25.00 on Second National Bank of Washington drawn by Thos. R Smith of Loudoun Co: Va. Alice Peirce went home this morning. We had a "gust" about 5.0 clk this p.m. there was quite heavy thunder & wind, but not much rain; it cooled the air very much however, for which we are thankful. I went to the store & mill. I mailed letters to C. & W. by the 2 o.clk mail which they should receive tomorrow afternoon.

Ther. 67 Clear Wednesday Aug. 1st 1894 Wind S.E. Mifs Alice Tygere & Mrs Marshall called at the gate, the former to pay her bill. I drove down to Ashton, called at Chas. S. Porter's and paid him in full of all demands to this date: home to dinner. Afternoon Lizzie Scott was here to see Dora and remained until near tea time. It has been very warm or hot today, Yesterday's storms not having seemed to have cooled the air as we hoped would have been the case. It was more or less threatening all day today but no storm up to bed time. But we may have one before tomorrow morning.

Ther. 68 Cloudy & Clearing Thursday 2nd Wind I rode on horseback over to John Green's to see his wife before dinner Afternoon Edwd drove over to "Eldon" & brought his Aunt Harriet home with him before supper. We had a thunder gust pass around north of us. giving us some high wind: & thunder & lightening but little rain.

Clear Ther. 62 Sunday Aug. 5th1894 NW Wind Quite cool this morning & very pleasant all day. Edwd & I went to meeting, and heard a short sermon from a gentleman a Mr [...], who is boarding at Samuel Thoma's & is from Washington. [Malclog?] Kirk's brought sister Harriet home before dinner. Afternoon Edwd drove over to "Riverside" & home to supper. After supper I went up to Hendersons for the papers. Lizzie Scott called after dark for some medicine. Alice & Fanny Peirce were here in the afternoon.

Clear Ther. 58o Monday 6th N.W. Wind The weather is even cooler than yesterday, a blanket being required on our bed last night. I took the "surry" down to "Eut's" & left it to have some of the [tires?] cut. Sister H & Dora walked to Ashton & back before dinner. Afternoon Edward drove to "Eldon" after some crab apples that did not come. Sister Lizzie spent the afternoon & took tea here. Joseph Bond Jr was here to consult me in regard to an injury to his left thigh caused by a lineman's "climbing spur" which had inflicted a punctured wound , in his falling from a telephone pole. The boys next door borrowed "Frank" horse to cultivate or plow their corn.

Hazy & Clearing Ther. 70 Thursday AUG 9th 1894 VariableWind.

Very close & warm. I suffered more with the heat last night than any night we have had this summer. I rode down to Ashton on horseback before dinner. Afternoon Edwd and Frank Robison went to Riverside in the phaeton for a "swim & bath" & home to supper. Alice & Fanny Peirce & Lucy Kummer spent the afternoon & took tea here. After supper I walked up to the store to take the milk can. I (with the other Trustees of the Sandy Spring Public School) filled out & forwarded the appointment of Miss Ella M Henderson, as teacher.

Cloudy Ther. 68 Friday 10th NEWind There was a fearful cyclone & hail & thunder storm at Purcellville yesterday afternoon & several lives lost besides many persons seriously injured. We are anxious to hear from our two sons who are there, it has produced a great change in temperature here since this morning. Edwd rode to the Cottage & to the Bone Mill & back before dinner. After supper he rode to A.S. Thoma's to a "dance club" meeting. I went up to the P.O. twice to day.
