Cloudy & Rain Ther. 60. Wednesday, May 23d 1894 NE Wind

Raw & disagreeable. We had quite a tunder storm this morning, with heavy rain, and occasional showers all day. I mowed some grass for the horse before dinner. Afternoon I walked up to the store. Mr: Halowell boarding at "Marden" brought two little boys to the office for advice & medicine, they were his nephews. "Turner" brought them in the Marden carriage.

Ther. Thursday, 24th Wind

I drove over to Riverside in Mrs Hazen's road cart taking the lawn mower & leaving it at Thos Lea's to be "overhauled" Afternoon Joseph Stabler brought me an ox cart load of good timothy & greengrass hay. Tilman Mitchells son called and I paid him one dollar on account of plowing the lot. Brother Richard seems better than for some time past. he rode over to Ashton both yesterday & to day. We had a thundergust this afternoon soon after 3 o'clk,

Clear & Cloudy - Ther. 57° Friday, May 25th 1894. Changable Wind.

I used Henderson's lawn mower & cut the grass all around the house; it was quite a task as the frequent rains have made it grow very rapidly, and it had got ahead of me. Afternoon "Prof: Hall" who is to deliver a lecture at the Lyceum tomorrow evening. upon "Dreams and Godly Things" called to see me. The Sherwood boys base ball club & the Sandy Spring "nine" played a match game in Allan Farquhar's field: The Sherwood boys were beaten. After supper Edwd went to A.G. Thoma's to the "Dance Club" It rained several showers to day , but no hard rain.

Clear - Ther. 57° Saturday, 26th N.W. Wind.

Dora, Edwd, Bessie & Hillis Robison left here in the Surry for Silver Springs and Washington about 6-15 this morning. Bro: Chas called for medicine for Bro Richard Miss Alice Tyson & Mr Halowell brought the two little Halowell boys to consult me again. Afternoon I trimmed the honeysuckle hedge in front of the house. The children got home at 8-30 p.m. Dora remained in Washington to spend a few days with cousin Hannah Archer. It looked as if we would have a gust about supper time but it passed north of us, giving us some wind & a "sprinkle". We may have more before morning.

Clear - Ther. 60. Sunday, May 27th 1894 N.W Wind.

Beautiful day. "Prof Hall was here again to see me. I went to meeting and enjoyed a quiet meeting, except for a few acceptable words from Friend Elizabeth Thomas near the close of the meeting. Afternoon Alice and Fanny Peirce called. After supper I walked up to Henderson's for Saturday's papers.

Cloudy & Clearing Ther. 58° Monday 28th VariableWind.

Cloudy early this a.m. but sun shone out before 7 o'clk. I rode "Frank" horse over to Fletcher Clark's shop & left him there to be shod "all around". Frank Robison brought him home and he & I ran the cultivator through the potatoes, & also through the unplanted part of the garden. H & I planted 3 more rows of Sweet corn. Cousin Hannah Chandlee called. I walked up to the store after dinner. Storms passed around us both North & South, and looking very threatning for us at one time, but gave us only a shower & some high wind, after which it turned quite cold - Hilles & Frank R worked their corn & potatoes with our horse & cultivator. I hoed all of our sweet corn ground. H also did a great deal of work in the garden, the ground being in good condition & fearing more wet weather.

Clear Ther. 42° Tuesday May 29th 1894. N.W. Wind.

Quite chilly this morning. Samuel Wetherald was here early this morning to ask what to do for a valuable setter dog that seemed to have been poisoned with strychnia. Frank cook was also here to consult me in regard to his wife. Frank Robison helped me "rub" over part of the garden He & Hilles used Frank horse early this morning to cultivate part of their lot where they intend planting sweet potatoes. Edwd did not come home to dinner until late having taken Faith Farquhar home with Miss [Hasuanis?] horse & buggy at her request. Afternoon Hallie Bentley called. "Corrie" Sprigg's called about dark broken out with "measles" on her way "home" from Benj Miller's where she has been at service.

Cloudy - Ther. 52° Wednesday 30th S. Wind.

Frank Robison & I cultivated the first planting of sweet corn. & I replanted it. Afternoon I drove over to Riverside to see Bro: Richd again. I took Harriet with me & left her at Homewood until I returned. Edwd & Frank Robison put up porcelain insulators on E's line of wires to the toll house. H set out some cabbage plants from Jas: Grady's. After supper I walked up to the store & P.O.

Cloudy & Clearing - Ther. Thursday May 31,st 1894 Variable Wind.

Cloudy & threatning all day until towards evening when it cleared off quite cold. I worked in the garden hoeing the potatoes. Edwd & I made up three rows for sweet potatoes. Dora came home before dark, coming with Edwd Bentley who had been to take his little daughter to Alexandria. I mailed letter to Thos: Hill in Baltimore in answer to one from him enquiring about the "Hill family". Arthur B. Edwards was here before breakfast & had a tooth extracted.

Clear - Ther. 52 Friday, June 1st N.W. Wind

Still quite cool. Fanny Peirce came before breakfast time, having brought Alice over to take the early stage for Laurel, on her way to Medford to attend the wedding of Edith Kummer. Dora went up to the Library in place of Miss Mary Fowler. Afternoon I went to the Closing exercises of the District Public School There was quite a gathering of the parents of the scholars and others present. H. C. Halowell made an address to the children & I made a few remarks on part of the Trustees. Harriet planted the sweet potatoe plants given to us by Mrs R's folks; they having more than they wished to set out.

Ther. 52. Saturday, June 2,d, 1894 S. Wind.

Rained several times during last night but is clear & bright this morning. with a chilly South breeze. Mailed a receipt for articles belonging to the School to Miss Emma E. Scheirer at Rockville. Afternoon Edwd went to take a music lesson and to the store for groceries etc. Singleton Bellows was here for advice & medicine for himself. Willie came in the evening stage, having come to Balto with Charley who had an operation performed at the University Hospital this morning for the exterpation of the "nail" of his "great toe", he had been suffering greatly with it. After tea W & Edwd went to Riverside to borrow a horse to go with Frank tomorrow to Laurel to bring Charley home.

Clear Ther. 60 Sunday 3d S Wind.

Edwd & I left home at 7 o clk this morning (driving "Frank" & Bro: C's "Bess") for Laurel, to meet Charley who was to have come up from Balto. we waited until three traines came past, without his coming, and we came home but he came in an afternoon train & got Millstead to send him up. he reached here about 5.o' clk. & seems to be getting along very well. Willie went to E. Peirce's this morning & drove up to Mr: Mathew's & home to supper. Fred Iddings was here this afternoon & went up to the telegraph office with Edwd & myself & telegraphed to Balto to enquire if there was anything from Charley.

Clear - Ther 65 Monday June 4,th 1894. S.W. Wind.

Much warmer than for some time past. Willie came back from taking the "Bess" mare home, going to E. Peirces for the plaeton, which he had left there last night having driven it over to Mr: Mathew's yesterday. Afternoon he trimmed the hedge nicely. I used Henderson's lawn mower to cut over the grass around the house. James Johnson (of Jnow W) was here & had a tooth extracted. Miss Alice Tyson called with the Halowell boys for advice for one of them. After supper W. went to E. Peirces: Philip T Stabler was here in the afternoon.

{Thunder-storm between 10 o'clk & midnight. heavy thunder & lightning}

Cloudy & Thunder - Ther. 60° Tuesday 5th V ariable Wind.

We had a succession of thunder storms after 10. o clock last night, until after daylight this a.m. Willie came home at breakfast time, ("Fanny bringin him) She then took him over to Riverside to get another horse to drive with "Frank" & take Charley to "Hazeldene": their-Mother-went with them: she being anxious to see our grand children; never having seen the youngest ("Catharine"): they expect to return to night. I hope it will not rain or storm before they come home. Edwd & I planted out 50 more sweet potatoes plants. Harriet and Willie reached home about 6-30 p.m. as we were at supper, having got along nicely. They left Charley at "Hazeldean"

Cloudy & Rain - Ther.48 Wednesday June 6,th 1894, N.W. & N E Wind.

Raw & disagreeable & towards noon commenced for a settled rain. Willie left for Loudoun Co, VA about noon taking "Frank" and the phaeton to "Silver Spring" where he will take the Electric cars to Washington and from there to Purcellville. Hilles Robison went with him to bring the horse back and got home again at 5-30 p.m. It has been an extremely dull raw disagreeable rainy day. After supper went up to the store.

Clear - Ther. 45: Thursday 7th N.W. Wind.

Beautiful morning after the rain but quite cool, with strong N.W. wind J. Collie brought his wife to the office for advice & medicine. "(Fanny Collie") is her name they live on Benj D Palmer's place. Afternoon Edwd took the "Bess" mare home to Riverside taking "Frank" with him to ride home. I walked down to Ashton & also up to Sandy spring.

Ther. 50° Friday, June 8th 1894. N.W Wind.

I went to the Sherwood School closing exercises. Edwd was there all day. Dora went to the Library for Miss May Fowler and was there all day. Afternoon I drove over to Riverside to see Bro Richard. After supper I went over the potato patch again after the "bugs" with Paris green & plaster. Cousin Ellie Chandlee called in afternoon. I went up to the store with the milk can about dusk.

Cloudy & Haizy Ther. 65° Saturday 9th S. Wind.

Blk Sam Budd came this morning to cut the grass around the "little Meeting House." I rode down on horseback to see after his work. "Frank" Robison helped him, cutting weeds & e with the bramble scythe. Miss Hannum gave permission for us to also cut the grass on the "Sherwood" School Lot. Fanny Peirce was here in the afternoon. Edwd went to "Cloverley" & borrowed John Bentley's "jump seat rockaway" to go to "Hazeldene" tomorrow, our carriage being too heavy for one horse over the hills betweene here & there, & Dora also is to go & return tomorrow. Edwd expects to remain at Mr Mathew's & go to Loudown Co with Charley & Ida on Monday to make a visit to them.

Hazy & Clear - Ther. 64. Sunday June 10,th 1894. N.W.Wind.

Dora & Edward (with Willie Grady driving them) left home at 7.o'clk this morning for "Greenwood;" Edward to remain at Hazeldene tonight & go with Charley & Ida tomorrow to Lincoln via "Hood's Mills" & Brunswick. I went to Quarterly meeting, which was very pleasant and well attended although not so crowded as sometimes in the past. Afternoon I went to Henderson's. Dora reached home about dusk Fanny Peirce coming with her.

Clear - Ther. 66° Monday 11th N.W. Wind.

Another beautiful day but very warm. Dora, Fanny Peirce & I went to Quarterly meeting again. We had an excellent sermon from John Cornell & also from William Way. There was quite a goodly gathering of "Friends," but not a "crowd." A young colored man was here before breakfast named Frank Thomas & had a tooth extracted or rather I tried to extract it & it broke off, being nothing but a shell of bine. Fanny Peirce walked home after supper.
