About
Caleb Edward Iddings, (1829-1904) was a physician in Sandy Spring, Maryland. In 1849, prior to medical school, he joined the wave of young hopefuls traveling to California, seeking fortune during in the Gold Rush. Upon his return from the West, he obtained his medical training at Maryland University and Pennsylvania College, graduating in 1857. He served as a surgeon in the Union Army from 1862-1865 and first settled in Darlington Maryland upon discharge. He later moved his family and medical practice to Sandy Spring in 1877 where he remained until death. Dr. Iddings was a prodigious record keeper, maintaining a daily diary for most of his adult life.
