60 Clearing SW OCTOBER, SATURDAY Ist 1887

Lizzie Iddings brought Nelly & Fanny over from Riverside. Charley & I drove both horses to the carriage up to Rachael Gilpin's & down to Ashton. C sold his "Road cart" to A G Thomas for $30.00 & Louis Stabler came & took it away. C packed his trunks etc. After tea Charley & Willie drove up to J. Hartshorn's to engage some hay which they promise to send next week. The colored people buried the man (S. P. Stacket, who shot himself at Wm Moore's yesterday morning before daylight); it was a very large funeral, many attending from curiosity. Annie Rounds Budd was here for the money sent to her by sister Harriet to pay for her & her daughter's passage to Philadelphia.

52 Clear- S.W OCTOBER SUNDAY 2nd 1887

Lovely autumn day. After dinner Charley drove me over to Saml. Sedgwicks in the carriage with both horses. Charley was busy packing his trunks & boxes, expecting to go to Baltimore tomorrow morning to Resume his studies at the University, we shall miss him very much during the winter.

55 Clouddy & Clearing SE OCTOBER, MONDAY 3d 1887.

Charley started off for Balto with quite a load of baggage including books, etc. Willie taking him to Laurel in the carriage with both horses. W returned about 11.o'clk. Bro R was here to see Nelly. Ned Hill was here for advice etc. Mary Gilpin called to enquire after Martha A Wright. Wm Wright was also here to consult me about his wife. Bro Chas called after tea W & I brought down some saw dust from the Mill & some horse feed & flour. Charley expects to commence attending lectures again at the University of Maryland "(Medical Department) today hoping to graduate in the coming spring.

46 Clear W OCTOBER, TUESDAY4th 1887.

"Nelly" left in the stage for Laurel & Washington taking with her all of her trunks etc. I walked with the children over into the "Meeing house woods" looking for nuts for the squirrel. Charles Bond brought one of their "Bone Mill hands" to me. (Benjamin Tucker) to have his right hand dressed it having been caught in the "Stanyos" & badly injured.

60 Cloudy SE OCTOBER, WEDNESDAY 5th 1887.

I was up early to see John Thomas about the milk bill; it is a dull cloudy morning & I do not feel at all well. Willie started to go to Riverside to help his uncle Chas dig potatoes but it rained & he turned back, but it cleared away partly about noon & he went again. "Uncle Henson" was here to see me after dinner. Jos. T Moore & Eliza N Bentley were married this afternoon at "Bloomfield" by friends ceremony. Willie came home after supper.

37 Clear N.W OCTOBER, TUESDAY 6th 1887.

Willie went again to Riverside to help dig potatoes was gone all day. Chas. Bond brought Bud Tucker again to have his wounded hand dressed. There was considerable frost this morning. After supper Wilie went to the "Lodge" at Olney. Riding the brown mare as he also does to & from "Riverside". morning & evening.

53 Clear. S.W OCTOBER, FRIDAY 7th 1887.

Willie went again to Riverside after an early breakfast to help dig potatoes. I drove over to Rachael Thoma's to prescribe for Amelia Wright (Geo: Wright's widow) taking Edwd & Hillias Robison with me. This is a lovely autumn day, Edwd & I gathered some wild flowers from the road side through the woods.

40 Clear & Cloudy Variable OCTOBER, SATURDAY 8th 1887.

Chas Powell (colored) was here & had tooth extracted Afternoon Mr "T Huse" from the Patent Office Washington was here to see me about Harry Hastings pension. Andrew Johnson was here for advice & medicine. also "Gus" Bulwar. Willie rode the mare to Laytonville to a base ball match. Mrs Cornelia H Butler called to see Harriet. After tea W & I walked up to the store.

63o Clear. S.E. OCTOBER, SUNDAY 9th 1887.

Beautiful weather but quite warm, the sun being hot after dinner. Willie rode the mare to Mechanicsville church & to Elton coming home about dark. The colored folks dedicated their new church at "Sharp Street", & passed & repassed here in "droves" all day & after night. H & I each wrote to C and I walked up & mailed the letter afer dark including one to Dora from H. & a postal card from Elton to Washington. I have felt quite unwell for the past few days. having slept little or none. My circulation is not good & am nervous & weak.

63o Clear & Cloudy. NE OCTOBER, MONDAY 10th 1887.

I drove to Nicholas Johnson's & thence to James J Johnson's to get a note from there in favor of F L Moore Agricultural Co: for $21.00, the one originally given to Charley not being satisfactory being written in lead pencil. I took another in ink & mailed it to F L M's Co: Willie went with me. Afternoon Branson Cook called & paid his bill. Wrote to dora & H wrote to Nelly at Knoxville Tenn:
