Types 111Ra quires a-gg except sheet ff3: 111Rb sheet ff3 all after quire gg. a10 b-z8 z10 2^8 aa-ee8 ff10 i gg10; hh-tt8 uu12 A-Q8 Aa10-Bb-Rr8Ss6. 111Ra Qu 3 forms - one single with long tailed Q another separate with long tailed Q sharply titled to rt. , the 3rd the separate form of 115R0 in use 1482, 83 + apparently later. 111Rb text type. In use in 1485+86. As type 111Ra is apparently not known to occur elsewhere after 1483, the printing of this book was perhaps interrupted for some time after completion of quire gg.

N. Laurentii - 1st known book both dated + signed 26 July 1477 but he was printing before that date. His last work this book. Polain - 642 ffnc. 2 col. 43 lines Pell - 642 ffnc. probably correct

This work is a reperatory of moral science + was the most important work of Pope Gregory. N. Laurentii painted the 1st Florentine illus. book, The engravings not being woodcuts but copper - printed up to the end of sig gg in his No. b type sig ll to the end in his new No. 7 type 1st ed of this most important + esteemed work, a kind of repertory of moral science. Apparently this is the lost work printed by N. Laurentii of Breslaw, who began printing in Florence in 1477.

Carole Guillard - the leading woman printer of the French Renaissance - she printed under her own name during the last 20 years of her life (1537-57) In 1502 she had married Berthold Rembolt + after his death in 1518 she managed the firm until her 2nd marriage to the printer Claude Chevallon in 1520

Coptic/Arabic Lectionary. Egypt. ca. 1650. 9 x 13" folio. MSS on ^heavy laid sized + polished paper c fine decoration. marked 271

2 col. 23 lines in black ink. The left column in Bohairic Coptic is wider than the right Arabic translation. Single heading in red ink c a 3 line initial in red + yellow. (Martyr. c 303 April 23) Doxology - praising St. George (mari girgis) SEWPSIOC [greek?] [arabic translation] a hymn or form of words containing an ascription of praise to God - a praising ie. Gloria in excelsis Deo. Synaxarion is the Coptic + Greek term for the Latin synaxarium + is a formal compilation of the lives of the martyrs saints + religious heros of the Coptic church. readings from the Scriptures. Lectionary ↑ - book containing accounts of the lives + works of the saints to be read as their feasts recurred during the year. With the exception of 7 letters derived from the ancient demotic alphabet of Egypt, the Coptic letters are essentially of Greek orgin; and Coptic MSS., c Arabic glosses, are of course more modern than the Arabic invasion + conquest of Egypt.

B.M. 1) Gospel Lectionary (1200) giving lessons according to the Jacobite use - readings from the 4 Gospels for Sunday feasts + special days. 2) Gospels in Coptic + Arabic (1663) The greatest significance of Coptic writing, however, lies not so much in the simplification, but in the fact that for the 1st time in the history of Egyptian writing vowels were graphically reproduced. All pre Coptic Egyptian writing was restricted to consonants. -- The monasteries became + have remained the place where Coptic literature + Coptic books were cultivated + developed. From its very inception the Coptic book took the codex form. Lectionary - readings from the Scriptures; books of Gospal readings for feasts, fasts + Sundays of the year.
