Julia Brumfield Diaries

A good day. Jim staid at home and worked. Ben went to Gretna for some eggs. Turkey eggs for Josie and hens eggs for Jim. Henry & Franklin and I went with him.

We come home. Josie had dinner a bout done. We eat and Ben carried Henry & Edna & Franklin and I to White Falls to fish. I did not catch any thing. Henry caught one fish.

Josie made Edna a dress this evening. Mrs Wooding went to see Carrie this evening. I know I had better stay at home and help do the work but am so trifling that I dont do what I should do.

A good day. Colde for April. A big frost this morning. Ben & Jim went to the island for guano. Got home by dinner. Carried some guano.

Josie made her a dress to day. I got dinner. This evening Effie & Hellen Brumfield and Virginia Harvey come. We were very glad to see them. I walked with them as far as Carries.

A cloudy day. We had rain and lightning and thunder last night. Jim and Ben has bin blowing up stumps today. Ben went to Mt Airy for fuse and Josie and all the children went.

We cooked turnip salit for dinner and turnips. We looked for the men that is to put in lights but they did not come.

I went to Marvins a little while. Carrie was makeing Hazel a dress. Virginia Harvey was at Carries to day. She had bin doing some fancy work for Carrie. Josie fixed a nice towel this evening.

A cloudy day. Ben and Jim got up stumps most of the day.

Josie ironed this morning and went to the plant bed and got salit for tomorrows dinner and made Mabel a gown and got supper. I went to Marvins this evening. Carrie finished Eva a dress whle I was there.

Virginia Harvey has put stiches on two of Hazels dresses and will put some on Evas.

Reese got some papers. He sent Henry two. Today was Denia Blairs birthday. She is 56.

A cloudy cool day. Have needed fires all day. Jim worked on his tobacco ground. Ben went to Long Island for roofing for the barn shelters. Marvin and Henry went with him. Ben carried corn to the mill. Josie made Henry two shirts and two pair of curtains. I churned this morning. This evening I went to Marvins. Carrie was makeing Eva a dress.

Heard of several planting tobacco today. It is very early to plant yet it may do well.
