[On left margin] P[er] Marshall copy P[er] Logie

I can't but approve of Capt Marshalls conduct on every Respect & hope he will Merit your Countenance-------

I beg you will at all Events use your utmost En= deavors to dispatch Marshall very Early in the Spring back as Establishing the ship in this trade. the first spring ship will ever procure a freight but rather than she should be detain'd on your Side you may add ten or twenty tons of Hemp more for my account to fill up & dispatch her. ~

I fully intended writing you more largely by this but really am reduc'd to the last Moment to write my own letters, and am loth to detain the Ship but shall write you further in a few days. I hope soon to hear from you & to receive all our Compa[ny] accounts and desire by the return of Marshall you will not fail to send my own Acco[un]t Curr[en]t.

I have sent you a large order for Goods you must be careful that they are well chosen & best of their kinds. I must beg that the oznabrigs now orderd may not be purchasd of the Same person that the two last parcells you sent us were, for such impositions are not to be Countenanc'd, about a yard of it outside very good & the remainder unfit for any use that it is turn'd upon my hands, and I can never sell it. Do be particular in your orders for the whole of my Goods. ~

I shall soon write you again, must now close and defferr what I have further to say till next opportun[it]y my best Comp[limen]ts attend you, & I am with perfect Esteem

[?][?][?] for that, all which I must beg you will duly honour, & Charge my account. You will observe the Form of my Bills which whenever I have occasion to draw shall Continue_____

I must beg you will Excuse me at this Juncture that I have drawn on you as at foot it is what I did not intend, but really gent[lemen] I could no way avoid it and desire you will please to honour all my Bills, out of all my debts & many dependencies to a large amount I can collect no money & am reducd to this method of drawing to raise Cash unless I should take money out of the Treasury which would be hard Fate. I doubt not but you will readily answer them. I shall get Scott away as soon as possible, when I shall remit you some Bills if not dissapointed, however I am always ready to make Satisfaction for any Advances, it is an advantage to each of us in the End, as the keeping a Stock of Cash ready Commands the preference as to purchases, and this I cannot always Effect without occasionally drawing, & almost the whole of those Bills rest with you. By Scott I shall remitt for my Goods by him and Marshall tho' I should first be glad to have my accounts from you.

You will please to add to my Invoice of Goods already sent to come in Marshall the few Articles now wrote for, I flatter myself you will get him away as quick as possible rather than he should be long detain'd. would it not be worth while to put in a few Coals in the River, tho' I would rather avoid it, I must leave all to you. ~

I must referr to my next for what I have further to say. I shall soon write you again, must now close as I am much hurried, my best Compliments attend you & I am w[i]th perfect Esteem. ~

not avoid, I was in great hopes to have forward more Bills by this, but there's no Dependence on promises, I how= -ever hope by the next opportunity to Transmitt them, but shall send them the moment I Rec[eiv]e them. ~

I have wrote you so fully on the Subject of our Grievances & Burthens, that I shall not add on that Head only say that if we are not Reliev'd, our Trade is gone, & we a[re] Ruin'd people, I shall at once drop all Connections with Business, for I am so much of an Englishman, that no power shall force me to Carry on Business, the Profits of w[hi]ch to be applied to Placemen, who we should be much better without than with them, neither is nor shall my Property be at the Controul & Service of any one that pleases to Demand it, w[hi]ch I am sorry to say there is too great a probability of its being the Case; but I am in= variably Determind to Support my liberty & Property at ye Expence of every^thing else, & will be free in a free Country & under a free Governm[en]t. I have a Right to it, & no man a Right to Deprive me of it. ~

You may Depend that by next opportunity I will Close & Send you all Acco[un]tts of Vessells, & Sales of all yo[ur Consignm[en]ts & must pray your Excuse that they have not before been Done, but I promise in future in all yo[u]r Commands & Consignm[en]ts orders &c w[hi]ch you may Please to fav[ou]r me with to be as punc= =tual as possible, hav[in]g it in my power I think to Transact all matters as well as any man in this country & w[hi]ch shall always be Executed in the best manner, & shall hope for your Commands in preference to others. My Scituation ever since my Uncle's Death has been a Scene of Hurry, & our Confus'd State here, has really prevented my Closing matters as I could have wish'd to have Done, but Beg your Excuse, w[hi]ch I am Confident you will Readily grant Considering all Circumstances. ~

I imagine if the Stamp act be Repeal'd, that you will be at no Loss to Freight Marshall, & Scott, & Doubt not but you will give them all the Dispatch in yo[u]r power. I Desire you will Send me by Scott Ten Tons of best Hemp, besides what I have wrote for to Come in Marshall.
