During the summer of , the College replaced the broken tablestone of Mary Brinsmead Wheelock. When the table stone and supporting stones were removed, a slate slab of similar size as the tablestone above was found at ground level. A companion stone was found, also, under the tablestone of Eleazar Wheelock. Both stones bore inscriptions. They follow;

MADAM MARY WHEELOCK Formerly Miss Brinsmead From Milford in Connecticut The consort of the reverend ELEAZAR WHEELOCK. DD. President of DARTMOUTH COLLEGE, having faithfully, honorably, and acceptably acted an important part on the theatre of life, quitted the stage, to receive the plaudi (t?) of the omnicient judge.
