THE ART GALLERY
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND AT COLLEGE PARK

20 August 1996

Prof. Juanita Holland

Dear Juanita:

I am writing to update you on the status of Gallery work on the David C. Driskell
exhibition project. I met with Keith Morrison on Monday, August 19, to discuss several issues
related to the Gallery, including the need for staff support for the Driskell project. I have
requested that a graduate assistant be assigned to the Gallery and dedicated to this project for the
next 18 months. His/her responsibilities would include coordination of fundraising and grant-
writing; scheduling of traveling venues; oversight of production and distribution of the catalogue;
and administrative liaison for all the campus participants in this project, including the scheduling
of meetings, etc. Such staff continuity seems essential in light of my upcoming sabbatical in 1997.

I believe that Keith understands the magnitude of this project and will support it in every
way he can. He will be conferring with Michele Eastman when she returns from vacation about
my request. As I discussed with you last week, Gallery work on this project will be put on hold
until we get further assistance. The demands of exhibitions and publications occurring this fall
and in 1997 must take priority. Michelle Kloss passed on all the materials she has assembled
when she left on the 16th. Everything is in good order, and I am eager to return to work on this
project as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
Terry
