Thursday 29th Miss Holland went out this morning, to Miss Fowler about an advertisement for a General Servant that we thought might answer for Mrs Lewin. Miss Fowler however could not recommend her to the place. Mrs Locking called yesterday morning to tell me Mrs Hughes had not been home since last Thursday when she came into town to see her sister who is in the Infirmary. Mrs Mills visited. Mr Bode held an evening service.

Friday 30th I went out this morning to get Flat Irons &c for the Laundry and pay some money to the Treasurer. left at 10 o clock a.m. returned at 1/2 past twelve o clock. The Laundress went out for an hour this afternoon. Mrs White of Auckland with the Revd ML Mrs Creed visited. Mrs White promises to visit us to morrow. Miss Holland went out after her school was over this afternoon.

Saturday Oct 1st Miss Holland and the Laundress went out to day. Mrs White called and read & talked with the Inmates for more than an hour this afternoon Mrs Lavender [?] Jones visited. Received a note from the Matron of Darlinghurst St to say Ellen Scotts Sister promises to come here.

Oct 1st When she leaves the Gaol on the 12th of the month.

Sabbath 2nd Revd W Mills held morning service Revd Mr Creed afternoon do I went out to morning service, Miss Holland went to evening do The Laundress returned home to tea. I read to the Inmates during the evening.

Monday 3d Mrs Dawson visited whilst she was in the building. Harriet Penketh and Johanna Smith quarrelled about mangling some clothes, Johanna struck Harriet. Mrs Dawson spoke to both the women upon the wickedness of quarrelling.

Tuesday 4th Miss Holland complained to me this morning that she had more than her share of work, and suggested that the Laundress should assist her to attend the gate on Saturday mornings the Laundress superintends the washing, [sup]besides which[sup] she folds and Irons herself three days in the week which I mentioned to Miss Holland and said I thought it would not be fair to expect her to do more, again she complained that the Laundress omitted to sit in the Dining room one evening this week. The Laundress went out this evening

1871 4th Mrs Robinson visited Mr Keens held evening service Ladies Sub Committee.

Wednesday 5th Harriet Penketh has returned to her work very earnestly to day and appears anxious to do the best she can, she has given up her intention of going out for the present. Mr Bowmaker held evening service Miss Holland went out this evening I went out for an hour from 1/2 past seven to 1/2 past eight o clock.

Thurday 6th Lizzie Darnes has again refused to wash nothwithstanding all entreaties from the Laundress. I have been therefore compelled to lock her up and give her bread and water for her dinner and tea. I took her out on time to attend service upon her promising to behave well and work to morrow The Dean held evening service.

Friday 7th Ladies General Committee Johanna Smith has been naughty again. Mrs Goodlet spoke to her about it and she promises to behave better.

Saturday Miss Holland & the Laundress went out this afternoon

Sabbath Oct 9th Messrs Moses & Williams held morning service Mr Somerville afternoon Do Mr Catley evening Do I went out to early morning service Miss Holland went out this afternoon returning after evening service.

Monday 10th The Inmates have been much quieter than normal to day.

Tuesday 11th Ladies Sub Committee Mrs Hay visited. Mr Armstrong & Mr Druce evening service.

Wednesday 12th The weather has been so wet that I fear we shall be late with the washing this week. Mr Gully even'g service Miss Holland went out this evening.

Thursday The coal was not sent according to order which has delayed the stoves this morning. I therefore went to the coal wharf to request it might be sent immediately. The Rev'd Mr Bode held evening Service

Friday 14th Mrs G W Allen visited also Ms Mills Gentlemens Committee

1870 October 15th Notwithstanding the very wet weather the greater part of the town washing has been sent home. Miss Holland went out this afternoon. The Laundress left after tea. Mrs M Jones Visited.

Monday 17th Johanna Smith and Lizzie Darnes are both behaving very well the former is much quieter in her manner the latter has been washing well during the last week. The Laundress went out this evening

Tuesday 18th Mrs G F Wise visited Ladies Sub Committee

Wednesday 19th Mrs Lewin has been very rude to the Laundress to day I spoke to her upon the subject saying I should be obliged to report such conduct after which she was most insolent, to the Laundress abusing her and myself saying she did not care for us at the Committee either. Mr Robins held evening service
