Dear Charlie

I received your letter last Thursday & read it with pleasure. I shall be very glad to come & see you all but my holydays are so short that I should have to come away again almost as soon as I had seen you. I hope you are all well & getting on. I am glad to hear that you keep up the practise of swiming it is a healthy & useful art, an innocent recreation, & is a relaxation from the severe duties of life, refreshes, & increases your sstrength to meet them.

Your father in his last, said he should write again shortly but has not done so. I hope you enjoyed your holydays & have returned to your studies invigorated both in mind & body & have resolved to make the best use of your time in improving yourself so as to be able to do some good in the world before you leave it. Robert, I suppose is getting a big boy now. Has he decided on what he will be yet? I suppose I should hardly know your sisters. Give my love to all & tell them I often think of them. The weather up here is very hot & dry & rain very much wanted. They have just finished shearing. Mr Oakes has [Crossed through - just] left us about 3 weeks or a month. He seemed in low spirits & said he was going to Mr Devlin's. We have had 2 steamers up this year. They both went on to Wagga Wagga & have since returned.

It is rather a novel sight to see steamers so far in the bush & is a sign that your country is going ahead & an encouragement to you as one of her sons to court yourself & prepare for that day, when you may be called upon to help her to take her station among the countries of the world. May you live to be useful to her. I suppose the parsonage is very much improved & looking very pretty. I hear your father is getting a good school. I am glad to hear it. How does the singing get on at the church. I hear you have Miss Hussey back again, I hope she enjoys better health.
