Stabler, who with [] arrived late in the afternoon few favored our having supper early in the afternoon & then attend to business being sure that would bring the members at the time named. Our chip basket has only had a few short articles for some time the members saying generally they had pieces, but forgot to bring them. 20th Meeting, at A. G. Thomas's

Agreeable to adjournment of our last meeting we met at A.G. Thomas's Apl 13th . We could but notice a great scarcity of our gentlemen members. Wm T & Mary Bond were absent also. Quite a number of guests. Our friends have a good situation for a garden getting ready & some things already planted in it, we were told they also had a young orchard. The corridor of flowers, was greatly admired, none of us ever having seen finer plants or more show of blooms from so few. Carrie L. Brooke foreman & the 1st question - How to trim gooseberry bushes? Trim out all the wood over 2 years old.

2nd How deep to plant Japan Lilly works 2 - 2 1/2 inches in good garden soil.

3rd Is it too late to put down currant & gooseberry cuttings. Will do for currants, the other doubtful.

4th How soon to put out Geraniums from the first to 2d of May - the latter date the safest time.

5th What kind of shade trees to plant round ashton store? Poplar & maple.

6th Were every bodys raspberry vines very much killed last Winter A very general complaint. 7th How many members succeeeded in raising Hubbord Squash? None - Referred to Wm H. Stabler who is said to raise fine ones.

8th Will Cantelopes & cucumbers mix? Yes!

Have the members every tried sprouting Lima beans? One had & tis said to do admirably.

We had some very interesting samples of kindery or sew work sent us by Benjamin Hallowell through Anna L. Moore who was requested to acquaint him of the interest manifested in them.

Dr F. Thomas read "Mount Washington in September." Just here the babys present seemed to feel it best to be heard as well as seen so were banished, to the next room in the care of their fathers, who caused considerabe amusement by the style of assuming the responsibility.
