Expositio.....logices Aristotelis Expositio.....in summulas, Petri Hispani 2 influential treatises on logic by Pierce Tartaret of the Univ. of Paris. Both texts had been 1st printed in Paris in the 1490's + enjoyed popularity in both scholastic + humanist circles.

commentaries on Aristotelis, Porphyrius + Petrius Hispanis should serve as official textbooks for the Wittenberg via antiqua.

Duns Scotus (1266-1308) Oxford philosopher. stressed the unknowability of God + the inaccessibility of this nature. He was the greatest medieval logician. Born in Scotland, he joined the Frenciscan order, studied in Paris + taught theology at Oxford.

The 4th tract, De sillogismis (on syllogisms) mainly goes back to Boethius's De syllogismis categoricis (on categorical syllogisms). It gives an explanation of the basic element of the syllogism, ie propositio, [crossed out] end of the syllogism [end crossed out], + goes into mood + figure, the proper forms of syllogisms, + briefly dels c what are called paralogisms.

Andre Bocard whose press remained active in 1491 until well into the 1520's, was one of the "libraries june" of the Univ. of Paris, + bookselling seems to have been his chief occupation; c printing as a sideline. Nonetheless, over 50 incunabula editions bear his name, + nearly 50 more are attributed to his press on typographic grounds.

The basis of this ed. by Camerarius is the German translation by Gerig Handsch, published in Prague. The illustrations come from Comad Gessneis estate which was acquired by Cameiarius. They were partly found ready partly nearly cut for this edition. The remained of Gessneis posthumous botanical material was published by Cas. Christ. Schmidel on commission of Ch. Jack. Trew, only in 1754-59 Mattioli's commentary on Dioscorides went through numerous Italian, Latin, French, German + Czech editions. The 1st German ed. was published in 1562 + the work continued to be published well into the 18th C. The text of the present item is a German translation of the botanical portion of Mattrioli's Commentalii, without the text of Dioscorides.

De vera 7 falsa penitetia Capitulu XI, XII Foliu LXXXIIII Capitulu X n4 marked folio 84 Goff A-1216 An early ed. of Augustine's "Confessions" in which the author gives an account of his conversion to Christianity by St. ambrose in 385. The collection contains 7 other authentic works of Augustine, including the "Enchuidon" or handbook on faith, hope + love written for Laurentius, which is the earliest theological textbook for laymen. Also included here is apparently the 1st ed of the "De Vera Religions" an early apologetic tract written shortly after Augustine left Milan + returned to Tagasto, his birthplace in OV Africa. There are in addition 14 pseudoAugustinian works, 2 of which seem to be 1st printings of texts actually by Arselm of Canterbury + Honorius Augustodensus.
