Mary Ruth Slaton diary, 1931 - 1935

[Left] November 19 1931. Wen't to school today, Studied my lesson's this afternoon. It is raining tonight.

1932. Mother & I worked on my Dutch Doll quilt some today. Dad & I wen't to Pleasan't View to Church tonight, but there wasn't anyone there. [inst]

1933. Rex and I spent the day with Aunt Ida and William. Aunt Bonnie came to Aunt Ida's a little while this afternoon. Rex and I came home this afternoon. Stella, May, Fletcher, Loyd and Modest came a while tonight.

1934. I sewed some, got dinner & cleaned up the house this morning. I ironed some this afternoon a little Duncan girl came home with Sis from school & will spend the night. Kate wash-ed for us today

1935. I ironed today and got dinner. & supper and quilted a little.

[Right] November 20 1931. Wen't to school today, came home this afternoon. Christia Lee and Ann Elise didn't come to school today.

1932. We went to church this afternoon but the Preacher wasn't there. T'he roads are too bad for a car & Rex didn't get to come. I wrote a card to Lorene Utley this afternoon.

1933. I have been nearly sick today. I got dinner today and patched some.

1934. I finished ironing, got dinner, cleaned up the house and patched some today.

1935. I churned, made a Jam cake & got dinner this morning. I wen't with Mr. & Mrs. Merrill & Leona to Mrs. Ruby Gaine & helped quilt this afternoon Nealie is going to spend the night with us.

NOVEMBER 21

1931. Stayed at home all day, and studied my lesson's. Mother and myself played Rook tonight.

1932. Dad & I went to Earlington today & I stopped in to see Bonnie & also Mary a little while. I called Miss Nannie today, but Rex wasn't at home, so I didn't get to talk to him.

1933. I don't feel any better today. I cleaned up the house and got dinner.

1934. I got dinner, cleaned up the house, wrote the answers to the questions to the Training course I am taking. The Educational Work of The Small Church is the name of the book we studied. I pieced a friendship quilt block for Elizabeth today also. Elizabeth came a little while this afternoon. Earl & John Marion came a while tonight.

1935. Jess & Norma Gene Hill spent the day with us. I quilted some this afternoon. Lin brought Jess & Lawrence & a [Tapp?] girl came after her. Mr. Slaton went home with Jess.

NOVEMBER 22

1931. Went to church this morning & took the Preacher's sermon down in shorthand. Cosby came this afternoon & we went to Church tonight.

1932. I washed down the windows today. I got a letter from Rex today. Uncle Brock went to town today.

1933.Rex and I washed this morning and I got dinner. I don't feel much better. Sis isn't coming home tonight.

1934. I washed a few pieces, wrote a letter to Mother, cleaned up the house, got dinner, churned and patched some today and [embroider -ed] my name on the friendship quilt block for Elizabeth.

1935. Mrs. Merrill spent the day with me and we quilted. I wrote a card to Mother today. Rex & Dock went to the Island again today so Mrs. Merrill & I were the only ones here.

NOVEMBER 23

1931. Came to town this morning, and went to school. Went to town this afternoon. Studied my lesson's tonight.

1932. Mr H.E. Stocks, Secretary, of Lockyear's business college, came this afternoon trying to get me to go to college. It has rained most all the afternoon.

1933. I got breakfast, dinner, and ironed today. Leona and Nealie came a little while this afternoon.

1934. I cleaned up the house, got dinner & ironed a few pieces this morning. William Ross & Leona came a little while this morning. Leona, Elizabeth & I went to Jim's this afternoon. Mrs. Dent is a little better today.

1935. I quilted nearly all day. Mrs. Rigney came & helped me quilt this afternoon. Sis went to town. Mr. Slaton came home late this afternoon.

NOVEMBER 24

1931. Went to school today. Studied my lessons this afternoon. It is raining tonight.

1932. The roads were too bad for Mr. Slaton, Miss Nannie & Reck to come today, but Dorthy Kirkwood spent the day with us & we had a right nice time.

1933. I don't feel good today. I got dinner today and cleaned up a little and wrote a letter to Mother. Earl & June came a while tonight.

1934. I got breakfast & cleaned up the home this morning. Sis has been nearly sick today. Sis got dinner. Mr. Joe Parish came a little while today. I read some tonight.

1935. I got dinner. Basil ate dinner with us. I have been nearly sick and in bed this afternoon. Earl & June came tonight.

[1931.] Went to school today, and came home this afternoon. studied my lessons a little tonight.

[1932.] Mother & I have worked on my Dutch Doll quilt today. We didn't go to Mrs. Utley's today as we wanted to for it was too cloudy.

[1933.] I cleaned up the house today. I feel some better. Sis and I went to Aunt Jessie's this afternoon. Rex went to town.

[1934.] Sis went to Sunday School this morning but I didn't go I stayed at home & got dinner. Mr. Slaton, Rex, Sis & I went to town this afternoon. Sis & I went to Jessie's a little while.

[1935.] I got dinner & supper. I have been nearly sick today and in bed part of the afternoon. Nothing happened unusual.

[1931.] Cosby and myself went to the Thanksgiving's sermon at Richland this morning. It is raining tonight.

[1932.] Dad & I went to town today. Mrs. Utley & Lorene came tonight & spent the night with us. Graden Osburn came a while tonight.

[1933.] Sis went to Sunday School & Church this morning but didn't any of the rest of us go . Jasper, Ruby Modest & Loyd and Evelyn came this afternoon. Elmer Wilson came also.

[1934.] Kate washed for us today. I cleaned up the house, got dinner & made a cake this morning. I ironed a few pieces this afternoon and churned. I wrote a letter to Mother today.

[1935.] I wrote a letter to Mother this morning. I scaulded my hand today. Uncle Brack came this morning & will spend the day and night. I got a letter from Mother.

[1932.] Mrs. Utley & Lorene went home this morning. Rex came this afternoon. Mr. Gene Melton came a while this afternoon.

[1933.] I cleaned up the house and got dinner today. Nothing happened unusual. I feel some better today.

[1934.] I went with Leona & Elizabeth to the Missionary meeting at Mrs. Cobb'ss today. Rex, Sis & I went to Uncle Alonza's to the last night of the training course. Rev. James Cox was there tonight also.

[1935.] Uncle Brack came home this morning and I came home with him and went to Mother's & Dad's and aim to stay a few days with them. Ocie came a little while this afternoon.

[1931.] Made some molasses candy & also some pop corn balls this morning. Wrote a letter to Alyene Rogers this afternoon.

[1932.] We washed this morning and I read some this afternoon.

[1933.] Dock and I washed this morning and I got dinner. I ironed some this afternoon.

[1934.] I ironed a few pieces this morning & got dinner. Rex & I went to town this afternoon & I went to Mrs. Mann's. Uncle Brack came to Mrs. Mann's after me & I came to Mother's & will stay a few days with Mother & Dad.

[1935.] I spent the day with Mother & Dad. Mother & I went to see Uncle Brack a little while this afternoon. We went to see Ocie also. Today is Thanksgiv-ings.
