Here we are surrounded by Water & yet we have beautiful trees - Shrubs Birds - Shine - all on this Island of Human Suffering.

The Rangers are due for beautiful pictures in the woods these days. The leaves turning color that no artist can paint. The trails we used to hike those shrubs, with there berries turning color & the fern found in spots, least expencted the Pine trees standing as stately - Oh! then they wonder why I get lonely. As I told the Dr yesterday in my talk - how I dread being alone. He didn't know the real reason of my living lonely.

I miss you very much. The saying goes, makes the heart grow fonder Those words are very true. How many times I wished that I could of done better while at Framingham by that I mean not been so cranky at times. Made you unhappy as I did only God knows how I have prayed for your forgiveness.

[Writing on right hand side]

Knowing women, Dear Doctor as I do & I told him that women are funny folks. They do not like to discuss a subject such as drink. I also asked him why he didnt go up to Framingham, to do research & study on alcholics & he said & I quote Dr Van Waters is a great woman & I have never been asked to go up there. You see Dear Docotor Van Waters. I am the only woman he has talked with down here. Mostly men. His Father was a great man & I think that he could do a great deal for the Women of Framingham & they in return could help further is education.

Doctor when I start to write you, I swear I will only say a few words, but no I keep rattling on & on.

The picture of the American Redstart is beautiful. You should see the sea gulls down there they are so big as Turkeys, they whail all the time. They have thousands of sparros I feed them after each meal Time is a wonderful creation

Please take care of your health. Framingham needs you. All the staff here, Doctors, Nurses & Ward help am trying to work it so that I can come here to work without going up town at all. Social Service is waiting word from Mrs Heffeman because she signed my paper. They do not want me to go from here without aid. Sir Barry thinks it would be great if I stayed on here & got payed for what I am doing now. Spoke with Sir over the phone & he is still kind even though he almost knocks my ear drum out, he talks so loud.

We welcome you to McLean Hospital. We realise that this is a large place and confusing to newcomers. There are 400 acres of land and more than thirty different buildings. So we have put a map in the centre of this book which we believe, will help you to find your way about. At the beginning there is a directory of various offices and places you might like to find alphabetically arranged, and at the end, there are items of general information.

No matter where you work, on the wards in direct contact with the patients, on the grounds where you will only see an occasional patient, or in the laundry, kitchen, ships or powerhome where you will never see a patient, your work is important to the hospital. It is only through your cooperation that we are able to help the sick people entrusted to our care.

We depend on you more than you realize and you may be assured that your services as a member of the hospital team are appreciated, whatever they may be. To the many members of our hospital team who have served the hospital long and faithfully, we say thank you. To our new members, we say welcome and we hope you will stay a long time too. We hope that you will soon feel at home here and that you will enjoy being part of the McLean family.
