Dear- Dr- I shall bring my check bonus to you-- [?] you shall handle it as of before -- but as I have to go to Boston Wed-A-M. I will need some funds. Do you think that you will be able to help me in the above matter-

I wanted so much to sit + talk with you this evening as I did last Monday for I do enjoy so much our talks-

It seems the nearer I am to you Dear Doctor the less I see of you or have chance to converse. Be selfish and it cannot be helped, Be it a Sin

Cross to Appeal Hiss Sentence

NEW YORK, Jan. 23 (AP) -- Alger Hiss, convicted of perjury and branded an aide of prewar Soviet spies, will file an appeal immediately after he is sentenced in Federal Court Wednesday.

The onetime high-ranking State Dept. official, an adviser to President Roosevelt at the Yalta Conference, faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and $4000 in fines.

Hiss was free in $5000 bail after the jury of eight women and four men found him guilty Saturday about 24 hours after they received the case.

His chief defense counsel, Claude B. Cross, said at his home in Brookline, Mass., that the appeal will be filed with the U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals here as soon as sentence is imposed.

The 45-year-old Hiss and his wife, Priscilla, were reporrted to have spent the week-end at the home of friends studying the record of the trial.
