FORT WORTH STOCK YARDS, FORT WORTH, TEX Apr 3 1906

To the City Council, Fort Worth, Texas.

Dear Sirs:

It is very noticeable to the traveling public that the Traction companies of the City of Fort Worth are totally disregarding the law which was passed sometime since providing the rear end of the cars for negroes and this law is being wholly violated by the white citizens of the City. It rarely occurs that a negro takes a seat in the car, excepting in the rear and then it is through ignorance.

I have written Mr. Edgar personally something like two weeks ago, calling his attention to the fact that the conductors permit white passengers to enter the cars and take the very rear seats when there is plenty of room toward the front and center of the car and he advised me that he would see that the Conductors were more careful in future but I see no change, therefore I desire to call your attention to this fact and if necessary to have the officers of the City pay some attention to their business. However, if the Traction company would put a notice in their car and have the conductors insist on the passengers leaving vacant two o three seats in the rear until all the other seats in the car were taken and to take the names of anyone who refused to obey this order and report same to the police department it would only be a question of a short time until it would become a custom and this trouble would be obviated.

If the Traction Company refuse to have their conductors comply with the law then I am going to introduce a bill compelling them to arrange separate compartments in the bar which of course will be some expense to them but will absolutely remedy the trouble.

Hoping you will give this due consideration, remain,

Yours truly, Jno K Rosson
