Saturday the 28 th Sept A D 1833

All this day Fresh breezes from the W ward weather thick at 6 [o'clock] in the morning set Top Sails and Stood to the N E Soon raised whales [lowered] 2 boats & gave Chase but with out Success at 10 [o'clock] saw other whales but too rough to [lower] the remainder of the of the day saw nothing So Goes no Obs Lat per count 35:20 Long 2:10

Sunday the 29 th

Began with light airs from the W ward at 6 in the morning All Possible sail & steered E N E at 10 Saw one whale [lowered] and gave Chase but without Success Middle part calm latter part [fresh?] winds from the N ward Saw another wilde whale & Chased but to no affect So remains Lat Obsd 35:35 Longitude 2:12

Monday the 30th Sept

Begins with x light x Strong winds from the N W ward Ship under short sail lying by heading W S W at 7 A M wore Ship to the N E ward at 1 P M Set doubt reefed Top Sails & Steered N N E by the wind but saw nothing worth remarks at Sun set furled Top Sails & wore Ship to the S W so Goes the last day of Sept and only one whale for my part I am quite discouraged Lat Obsd this day was 35:36 Long 2:20 west

Tuesday the 1 st Oct 1833

Fresh winds from the Sth W ward at 6 in the morning Set Top sails & steered to the N ward by the wind at 10 raised 2 whales & chased hard but without success at 4 P M Squared the yards & Steered East at 6 Saw 3 Sperm whales Chased hard but did not Strike at 7 [came] on board filled away Stand half watches Carry all sail So Ends all well Lat Obsd 35:20 Long 2:26

Wednesday the 2 nd

Began with light breezes from the N W ward which continued through the at daylight in the morning Saw 4 whales & Spent the day in Chasing Saw 2 merchant Ships Steering E S E at Sun set furled Top Sails & lay by So Ends Lat Obsd 35:28 Long 2:00

Thursday the 3 th

light airs from the W ward through out the at 6 [o'clock] in the morning set all sail & steered E N E at 10 raised 3 whales [lowered] soon got fast but the Iron [came] out at 11 raised Sperm whales Struck 1 and the Irons [came] directly out darted at another but did not get hold So Ends the day Lat Obsd 35:50 Long 3:00

Friday the 4 th October 1833

Began with light breezes from the N ward at 6 A M set all possible sail & steered W S W at 10 [o'clock] raised Sperm whales at 11 [came] up with them [lowered] & soon Struck and lost a line darted at another but did not get hold at noon [came] a long side & got dinner went directly off soon struck & killed 1 and took [her?] alongside & began to cut but [night] [came] on & we were obliged to let [her?] alongside So goes Lat Obsd 35:50 Longitude 3:20 west

Saturday the 5 th

Began with the wind [N?] and blowing a heavy Gale at 2 P M the Shifted suddenly to Sth W we [immediately] called all hands wore Ship in hopes to be able to cut our whale but in vain. [Wove?] back again & let her lay Saw 1 Ship Steering E S E under short sail So remains no observations Lat per Count 36: Longitude 2:50

Sunday the 6 th

Throughout theese 24 hours heavy Gales from the W ward Ship under a close reefed main Top Sail lying by our whale Standing hole watches with faint hopes of Saving her at Sun set the weather latter increases So Goes the 6th no observations Lat per Count 36:20 Long 1:30

Monday the 7 th October 1833

Began with a tremendous Gale from about W at 11 [o'clock] the wind shifted suddenly to the Sth W at 12 the weather & sea increasing Ship labours hard Cut our whales [Flukes] off & let her gone wore Ship directly & Stood to the N ward So Goes no Obs Lat 37:00 per Count Long 1:00

Tuesday the 8 th

began with a Gale from the W ward but rather decreasing at 8 in the morning Set Top Sails & Steered to the N ward by the wind In hopes of finding our whale latter part calm at Sun Set Furled Top Gallant Sails & Steered E by Sth by Compass so remains Lat Obsd 35:29 Long 1:10 west

Wednesday the 9 th

Began with Strong winds from about Nth which lasted through the day Ship under all Sail Steering E S E & after running all day without seeing the Spout of a whale Furled Top sails & lay by So goes Lat Obsd 36:20 Longitude 1:09

Thursday the 10th

all this day Strong winds from the N ward Ship under three Top Sails course Steered E S E by compass Saw nothing worth remarks at Sun Set furled Top Sails & lay by So remains no Observations Lat per Count 36:00 Long 2:40 East

Friday the 11 th October A D 1833

light winds throughout the at 6 in the morning Set all Sail & Steered to the N ward by the wind but Saw nothing at P M tacked Ship & Steered to the S ward saw 1 whale bound Sth W one Ship in sight to the W ward steering S E at sun set single reefed our Top Sails & Steered to the S W ward by the wing So remains Lat obsd 33:39 Long 3:51 East

Saturday the 12 th

Began with Fresh Gales that lasted through the day Ship under Single reefed Top Sails Steer W S W by the wind Saw one Ship Steering E latter part hands Employed in breaking out the fore hatch for water So Ends all well Lat Obsd 34:50 Longitutde 2:47

Sunday the 13 th

Throughout this day light airs & calm Ship under all sail steer to the N W ward Saw 1 Ship Steering S E at sun set Calm took in sail & lay by So Goes Lat Obsd 34:51 Long [1?]:34 east

Monday the 14 th

Commenced with strong winds from the N ward at 6 [o'clock] in the morning Set Top Sails & Steered by the wind to the W ward at 12 [o'clock] the wind & weather increasing took in saill & lay by nothing more occured this day So Goes Lat Obsd 35:15 Long 0:50 obs East
