Tuesday the 15 th Oct 1833

Began with fresh winds from the N ward weather thick lay by ship under short sail middle & latter part light winds from the W ward at 10 [o'clock] set all sail & steered to the N ward by the wind Spoke with the Faborite Hathaway of Fair Haven with 3 whales then from [Trio & gunnars?] at Sun set calm Stand qr [quarter] watches so Ends Lat Obsd 36:00 Long 14 miles west

Wednesday the 16 th

The day began with light breezes from the Sth W ward Ship under all sail Steering N W middle & latter part Strong winds together with rain at noon Tacked Ship & steered to the East ward So passed the day Lat un obsd [unobserved] per count 35:50 Long 2:00

Thursday the 17 th

Throughout the day fresh Gales from the N ward & rain Ship under all sail Steering East by compass saw nothing worth remarks this day So Goes all well Lat obsd 35:03 Long 00:50 East

Friday the 18 th

First fresh winds weather thick Ship under all sail Course E per compass middle and latter part light airs weather pleasant Saw one whale & chased hard but without success. Saw large quantit ies of hump backs So goes the time 1 day after another Lat Obsd 33:43 Long 5:20

Saturday the 19 th October 1833

Commenced with light breezes from the W ward at daylight in the morning set all possible sail & steered to the E ward Saw large quantities of finbacks middle & latter part the wind & weather about the same Saw a number of whales lowered & chased Struck & killed one that sunk at 8 [o'clock] double reefed our Top sails and stand qr [quarter] watches So remains Lat obsd 33:33 Long 5:20

Sunday the 20 th

Began with Fresh Gales about W N W at 6 in the morning turned out the reefs & steered to the N ward by the wind Soon saw whales lowered & gave close chase but to no affect came alongside & took up our boats & double reefed our Top Sails Saw a number of whales but too trough to lowere at sun set turned out the reefs & steered to the E ward Stand hole watches So goes all well Lat Obsd 33:11 Long 6:00

Monday the 21 fst

Light westerly breezes throughout the day Ship under all sail Course E by S per Compass Saw a great many hump backs & finbacks but no whales all hands Employed in Stowing our Sperm Oil at Sun set furled Top Sails & lay by So goes all well Lat Obs 33:05 Long 7:01 East

Tuesday the 22 ond October A D 1833

Began with light airs from the S W ward at daylight in the morning made all sail & steered to the Sth W ward by the wind at noon Saw 1 whale bound W did not lower at 1 P M Squared our yards & Steered E S E Saw a great many finbacks & humpbacks but no whales at 6 P M [Spoke?] with the Tristran of Havre with 1 whale Saw Barque Dryad but did not talk with her. So Goes all well Lat Obsd 32:39 Long 8:30

Wednes [Wednesday] the 23 thd

Commences with light breezes from the W ward weather clear & pleasant at daylight In the morning Set all Sail & Stood to the Sth ward by the wind Soon raised whales down all three boats & gave chase but to no affect latter part calm two Ships In Sight at Sun set furled Top Sails So Goes Lat Obsd 32:49 Long 9:05

Thursday the 24 th

The day begins with fine weather at daylight. In the morning set all all sail soon raised whales [lowered] & struck but soon [dove?] from her [came] along side & got breakfast. Saw another whale gave chase soon got fast Killed her & cut her in latter part light airs from the E ward weather thick furled the Top Gallant Sails and Steered to the W ward S remains Lat Obsd 32:32 Long 9:00

Friday the 25 th October 1833

Began with Strong winds from the S E Ship under Single reefed Top Sails Steering W by Sth by compass at 10 A M Saw one whale [lowered] & gave chase darted but to no affect latter part the weather about the same steered W N W at sun set calm began to boil So remains Lat Obsd 33:35 Long 7:20

Saturday the 26 th

The day began with light airs which continued at daylight In the morning Set all sail & steered to the N ward soon raised whales & began to chase Struck one in course of the day the line parted at sun set took in sail & lay by So goes Lat obsd 33:22 Long 5:20

Sunday the 27 th

Throughout this day light airs from the W ward at sun rise Saw whales [lowered] out boats soon struck & killed one & cut her In Struck another in the course of the day & the iron [came] out at sun set furled Top sails & lay by So remains Lat Obsd 33:00 Long: 5:[00?]

Monday the 28 th

Began with fresh winds from the S E ward at 6 A M made sail & steered to the N W Saw 1 whale & chased but to no affect at 2 P M spoke with the Columbia and Washington of Sag Harbour latter part [game?] with them So Goes Lat 32:50 Long 5:00 East

Tuesday the 29 th Oct AD 1833

Began with Strong winds & thick weather at daylight in the morning set Top Sails & Steered to the N ward soon raised a whale [lowered] and gave chase but the weather Increasing did not get hold [came] on board & took in sail the Columbia and [Washington] in sight standing to the E ward middle & latter part the wind [blows] a gale at 11 A M put out the fires latter part hands Employed in scraping bone So Goes all well Lat 33:10 Long 5:00

Wednesday the 30 th

The day began with a gale from the Sth W with frequent rain squalls at 9 A M set Top sails double reefed & steered to the N ward by the wind middle & latter part weather moderate set Top Gallant sails & steered N saw a number of humpbacks but no whales so remains Lat Obsd 32:50 Long 6:00

Thursday the 31 fst

Throughout this day light airs weather Pleasant Ship under all sail saw a whale & chased but without success So Goes the time one day after another hard [times] Lat Obs 32:35 Long 5:00 East

Friday the 1 fst November 1833

Began with Calm weather which continued through the day Saw large quantities of birds & finback all hands Employed in sundry jobs as occassion required boatsteers in setting up Craft So Goes Lat Obsd 32:46 Long 6:35
