1789,
September,
18, Clear morning, G.Taylor ret'd from Col.Madison's and dined at home. Capt Burnley here in evening. Got peaches on Mountain. W[hip] P[oor] Will cry.
19, Brandy brought home. M.Perry says 21 jugs full put in Cask. C.Taylor went to C.Taylor's & ret'd to dinner. J.Taylor & C.Taylor, for sell and Capt.Conway sent & got Quinces- J.Taylor sent & got a Jug of Old Brandy, ab't 2 gallons.
20, [Sunday] We dined at home. I walked after dinner to J.Taylor's. when I ret'd Chs Taylor was here and said he intends to make bricks tomorrow.
21, I rode to Col.Spencer's (a sale adv'd there) to see Col.Barbour & got him to take Int.Warrants amo't £16.19.4 to have Registered. I ret'd to dinner. Killed 3 Squirrels. C.Taylor began brickmaking.
22, Had Quinces gathered. Aunt Taylor sent & got a Basket full. One do. gathered for Reu Taylor's wife. Killed a mutton.
23, Walked with G.Taylor to C.Taylor's & dined there. Miss S.Madison there. Also W.Gibson & _____Moore, joiners- C.T. Making bricks. fine warm weather.
24, Went with G.Taylor and dined at J.Taylor's.
25, Staid at home, took dose salts.
26, Capt Burnley breakfasted here. G.Taylor sold M.Perry 2 Midlings Bacon, 21 1/2 lb. went with Capt Burnley, Richard & Colby, to Mrs James's where heard Beef was to be shot but nobody met & we returned home to dinner. I killed 2 squirrels.
27, [Sunday] James Taylor & his family dined here.
28, Went to Court, Richard & Colby walked with me. A little rain with some thunder & lightning-
29, Warm weather, I walked to J.Taylor's & ret'd to Breakfast.
30, Went with G.Taylor to C.Taylor's. Capt Conway got there from his Mountain Quarter to dinner. W.Gibson & ____ Moore framing C.Taylor's house- In morning Miss Bell brought 2 pair Stockings she knit for me & I paid her 7/-. Cool to-day.
October,
1, Cool morning. Reu Taylor sent & got 1 1/2 gal Brandy. Dined with G.Taylor at J.Taylor's-R.Pendleton & R'd Barbour of Culpeper there- very cool.
2, Severe frost, killed Tob'o, Fodder &c. The Ridgeling Bull killed for beef. Capt Burnley Breakfasted here, I went home with him, he took 4 bee-hives & got ab't 3 gallons honey. I dined there. G.Taylor dined at Maj'r Moore's
3, Great White Frost, Plants frozen about as much as yesterday. G.Taylor sent a Quarter of Beef 70 lb. yesterday to Moses Perry. had the rest cut up & salted this morning-
4, [Sunday] Rained last night and to-day. We dined at home.
5, Went with the boys to where C.Taylor was blowing limestone. Maj'r Moore, Capt Burnley, Reu Taylor, H.Pendleton & J.Taylor jr. & my father were there.
6, Went again to where blowing limestone. C.Taylor, Maj'r Moore, Capt Burnley & J.Taylor were there. J.T. came by & walked with the boys and me. Bitch pupped.
7, Fine morning, not so cold as for some days past.
8, Very little frost, warm & clear. G.Taylor went to Col.Madison's- I walked with the boys to the limestone. C.Taylor, Reu Taylor, Maj'r Moore & some of his sons were there. I killed Squir'l & caught a hare, the latter not in season.
9, Hazy morning, rainy evening & warm. Bor'd J.Taylor's skillet & made marmalade.
10, G.Taylor ret'd from Col.Madison's, he dined yesterday at Mr.T.Scott's & to-day at Mr.Shepherd's- Clear day.
11 [Sunday] We dined at home- after dinner walked over to J.Taylor's, whose boil is almost well, his wife & Nancy were at Bledsoe's Meeting house, where a great many people and several preacher's were.
12, Billy Bickers was here. G.Taylor paid him 6/8 for 17 Gal's Tar had of him.
13, C.Taylor and G.Taylor went to Reu Taylor's & dined. I sent 6/- & mem'o for Reuben to get me some trifles. Buckwheat cut ab't 6 bushels.
