19th. Decr 1862. We have been plowing some shrubing fencing & getting wood Killed Hogs etc etc. I went to Court & stayed 3 days Settled Mrs Hunt Acct Current etc since the 13th – Moved Mr Neal to day Bybee & Morefield last week & so we go.

23rd from the 19th Sent to Mill hawled wood Burnt Plant Bed here on the right Side of the woods going to Creek & at plantation in slash plowing some here Morefield fencing [shreaded?] and cleaning up new grounds not got up last year we are now getting here Sills & Logs to build Kittys House hawled up 1 oat stack and 1 fodder Stack got from Dove put 1 load Straw in Rack

25. getting Sills & Logs for negro House – yesterday – finished plant Bed in slash at plantation burnt by Mr Morefield

1863 Janry 6th. I have been to Lynchg started last Tuesday stage Broke down coming back & I stayed in Lynchg 4 days instead of Two, fine weather bot some goods for Mr Hunts Estates negroes Our work at home has been getting Logs etc for negroes House Plowing cleaning p in new ground etc etc etc Plowing down on Creek, & fencing to day

8th. Burnt Plant Bed adjoining the first one we we burnt here. Plowing etc etc etc

9th Sewed Plant Bed getting wood cutting etc. Henry gone to halled Load corn for Mrs Whitehead & bring some back from Plantation to day I am going to P.O. Mrs Whiteheads & Plantation snowed last night about 2 Inches Deep

10th. Raining & hailing to day cant go to meeting S.S. Sent Smith to shop to get Phil & Robin shod making bars spining making Baskets etc.

11 & 12th. Went to meeting 11th Cutting & Halling wood Sent to Mill 12th 10 Bus. Corn for meal

13. 14. 15. Cut wood at at Hancocks to burn plant Bed fencing & Plowing on Creek & finished down there to day & began to clear in old fieldto day – Kitty cleaning up along road fence –

16 17. 18th & 19 - I went to Court. Sunday Come back Monday night. Our folks cutting in pines to day

21st. Sent 2 Bags seed Cotton 55. lbs 56 lbs grass to Millers Hanging up our meat in part to day Rained & snowed last night striped Tobacco.

24. Halling Logs to Mill & leaves & wood. Sent claiborne to Francis Blanks s to roll Logs Sent 1½ Bbl Corn for meal, & one for overseer. Cloudy to day - Aunt Filles & Nancy sick at old place – yesterday I went to plantation & Post office, etc. they have carrd 7 Logs to Millers Mill from Plantation & 1 to Yates for me

Janry 24 Carrd to Whiteheads or Keans 5 Logs to day Turn Corn for meal & 1 for overseer Neal. Recd meal & this 25th Card 4 Logs morge [more?] 2 Oak 2 Pine

26 Halling wood malling wood & Rails & shrubing new ground to day sent claiborne to A Scruggs to Roll Logs making 2 days he has rolled

[2]8 & 27th. Snowing & Halling these Two days & on the 29th. Snow about 12 or 14th Inches Deep We are striping Tobacco. Two days –

Feby 5th. From the 29th Janry it has snowed Twice been snow ever since last night snow 6 Inches Deep now. raining snowing & hailing dreadfull weather We have been getting wood Cutting one day & strip ing Tobacco most of the time, - shucked corn broke flax, & expect to continue to break f[l]ax & swingle

6th. this day as we no Tobacco to strip hang our meat up sometime ago. Smoking that —

Saturday 7th went to meeting Sunday staid at home

9th Febry To day I went to old place Fannies Jacobs Kates & Vaughan Sent a letter to Jerry We are cutting in plantation Cutting pines.

11th yesterday all Cutting down Pines. this day shrubing up & halling wood, Henry plowing. I am going to Plantation

15th. Finished cutting in new ground this week halled Load fodder halled out straw & Leaves Plowing took up apples Kepted very well Aunt Peggy not sold 13. no body at sale

17th been to Court Sold Bob yesterday for $1880. Moses Tredway bot him, fenced & Plowed yesterday raining all day to day worked some in shop & on Baskets. etc etc –

19th. Halling & Cut & mall wood yesterday took down all our Tobacco to strip. to day Sent to mill for 3 Turns meal & sent Henry with 8 Bus wheat to Yates & sent some Iron 2 Hoes to Pay 1 to fix Eye 1 Couller to & Dutch Plow to p[a]int ¬–

21st. Raining to night Hailing & snowing all night. I went to plantation friday, to day to old place & Mr Keens & mill. very cold & disagreeable

22 Sunday sent to Hodnetts & Kelleys to roll Logs this week very cold to day cloudy & bad sent Smith to P.O.

23 Snow about 3 Inches Deep, finished striping Tobacco here to day getting wood. Very bad weather —

28 The past week I have been to CH. roads awful bad, We have rolled Logs Halled up oats Cut & malled wood fenced etc etc. snow above gone weather not settled looks like for rain or snow now no good business weather since Christmas my wife Sallie & Doran gone to Kates –

March 3rd Fine weather at this time have been Plowing malling etc etc etc I am going to aspen Grove to day, Neale sick yesterday pt of the day

1863 March 6 Planted Irish Potatoes by Kitchen, worked in Garden yesterday Lila & Kitty. Planted Peas & Beets Thrashing Oats Plowing been Cutting malling & Halling wood yesterday I went to P.O., - etc. Bro John Prindle stayed here last night I sent to Lynchg for me by him for [20g?] selfIndigo Salts for old place & 2 [lbs?] Copperass for ourselves – & he further agreed If I would Send 2 Bus. Oats to his House next Tuesday morning he would let me have 2 Bus. winter Oats for them which I expect to do. –

7th Plowing & shrubing corn field & cleaning up Coultering in new ground to day – - I went to meeting to day rained a little to day.

9th. winding Oats. Malling wood & Rails fine day.

10. This morning turned cool & hailing & Raining – started to plowing & cleaning up in new ground & rain stoped us, Sent Smith to Mr Prindles to swapt some oats say 2 Bus. winter Oats we get

11th Rained all night cleaning off our new ground

13. Cold & windy to day getting wood began yesterday but had to get wood to day Mr B. Cut hooks out of steers Eye this morning - very cold day –

14th Still very cold Coltering in new ground plowing for corn malling & Piling wood in Piney new ground

17th. We sewed 2½ Bus. winter Oats got from Mr. Prindle Sewed Oats at Keens to day began to Plow there yesterday fencing Halled up stack fodder from creek to day – Sent 4 Turns Corn for myself & 1 for Neal to day. Sent 1 Oak Log & 1 Turn Corn yesterday & brought the meal lasthome Mr Neal & Kitty fencing pulling up bars etc etc finished shrubing corn field –

20th Finished sewing Oats at Mr Keens yesterday 12 BusBus it Rained & Hailed before we finished, Sent 4 Turns corn for meal & 1 for Neal in evening we done but little to day sent to P.O Raining hailing & snowing real

1863 Mar. 20 Real winters day cold & snowy I went to W H Wallers yesterday for Mrs Fitzgerald

March 21. Perry Came here last night for Cow food. I sent ½ the frame full of Oat straw & chaff tho I did not have it to spare This is another real winters day Snow & hail 5 Inches Deep now raining a little, we are halling wood to day & cutting, -

Mar 22nd Cleared off tolerable good day

– 23 tolerable good day burning Brush in orchard & Breaking & swingling flax to day — cloudy up & raining at night, nannie & me went to Mr Keens this evening before it rained

24th Raining nearly all day. Fanned out all Oat wheat. Sewed 15. Bus made 35. got now 22 Bus Sewed at Plantation 35 " made 30. Bus so chumbly but when the 1st Mar. I move the wheat only 15 " let Mr Morefield have 1 Bus of that

Sewed 1862 about 30 Bus at Plantation mostly old only about 6½ Bus. new Sewed here 13. Bus. & 1 Bushel bower wheat bot of Mrs Smith 1862

25th. Raking up making manure heaps Sent Smith & Henry to Mr Sheltons Tan Yard. got $2 worth Cow Hair., I went to Capt Johns

26th. Laying foundation of negroe House Sent to Cotton machine, Halling wood fencing etc. I am going to Plantation to day

27. Went to meeting & Kept fast Day. all hands

28th. Sent to Mr Hunts to Roll Logs Sewing Oats coltering etc etc – to day very likely for Rain. I am going to Millers Mill to day Bought of Jas Kelley for JH Hargrave Bacon as by 6. Hams 6. s. & 1 midling. 172 lbs 6 midlings 1 S. & 1 Ham 144 -is 316 2 midlings. 1 shoulder & 2 Hams. 88 lb gave Mr Kelley an order to @ 88 lb 90 pr. lb is Hargrave for the amt
