SIGN OF THE LION, MAIN STREET. MONS ANDERSON, Wholesale & Retail Dealer in Dry Goods, Clothing, Hats, Caps, Boots, Shoes & Yankee Notions
La Crosse, June 14 1865
Mr. I. A. Lapham
Dear Sir:
My old friend Mons Anderson of La Crosse has lately returned from Washington where he obtained for the use of the Fair, [some?] rare specimens of Autographs &c [etc]. It was attended with some trouble & difficulty as the owner was very unwilling to loan the use of them for exhibition at our fair. I have advised him to place them in your care & custody as you would be sure to have them carefully handled & returned to him uninjured. Bear in mind they are only borrowed and must be returned to their [owner?] in Washington after the fair is over. The New York papers have noticed them & I wish you to have our City papers do the same & in connexion [connection] with Mons Anderson's name as he is doing much for the fair in this part of the state and is the most enterprising and largest Dry Goods merchant on the Mississippi river in this state.
Very truly yours Daniel Wells [Jr.?]

My dear Sir,
I have sent you this day by Express a Box containing one hundred specimens of minerals which I trust will be of some interest, althought they are not all rare.
I have but few duplicates here, for all were destroyed with our cabinet in the great fire of 1862.
The package of labels you will find in the box. On the back of each is a number corresponding with the specimen to which it

belongs.
In case the number of votes should be greater for Beloit than any other institution, will you please have this small collection given to the one standing next.
The Journal I have received. I will enclose one Dollar the subsription price of it.
Hoping the Fair will prove a grand success, an honor to Milwaukee and the whole state.
believe me, in haste,
Your's very truly
H. B. Nason
