I have paid John Maiden, and James Scarlett - one pound each as directed, - but William Major is absent on a voyage to South America, - He is a single man - and when at Hull lived with his father & mother. will the receipt of his father answer the purpose required - I send his receipt unsigned. Vessel "Lady Seale" My Dear sir: 16/2/60

I return your statment of work done at "Lady Seale" from the time of stranding till the she arrived here.

I have had it recopied and set out in columns which I will thank you to check and correct if necessary and also to fill up the two last columns reg "Rate" and "amount"

You have not given the time of employment of John Sharring Chf Boatman, be so good as to enter it and amount due.

Get Bills for three horses and carts, you may leave Blank reward to man who gave in - -formation.

Use of cable in boarding the vessel and her continued employment to the 5th Just Get a Bill for this

Loss of Boat taken with vessel £6 value What Boat is this £3-10-0 to Sherwood for digging out anchor see now this by agreement, if you send a Bill

Make the aforegoing corrections and additions and let me have the account as speedily as possible, as yesterday I had an inquiry of expenses in getting vessel off, - and amount due to salvors. truly yours. J.S.

The expenses incurred in getting the vessel above named off the shore and bringing her to her present position in Hull Harbour amounts to about £250.

The salvers expect £200 more for their trouble which has been very great and may therefore he deemed reasonable.

as the vessel requires frequent pumping, the services of the men are necessary for her care there fore an early settlement is desirable for the benefit of all parties concerned. I am Gentm Se e. J. Sparrow

no 1. 26/2/60 Sir, The steam vessel "Lady Seale" was stranded at Withernsea on the 29' nth, and has been returned using account as no 10. 1860

She is returned at a value of £2500 But the damage she has sustained may have reduced her worth to about £1200 or £1400

By paragraph 123 of Instructions I perceive that I am to charge £20 commission. I will thank you to instruct me what amount of personal fees I am entitled to for the following services by

Proceeding to Withernsea a distance of about 20 miles and taking charge of the vessel also giving instructions about getting her off the shore.

Communicating frequently on the subject by Telegraph and letter.

After her arrival in Hull Harbour attending on the morning of the 7 Just, between 4 and 5 oclock for the purpose of employing men to pump her out she being in a sinking state

When she came on shore she had her light burning it being at a very early hour in the monring when she was stranded, - There was not any person on board - nor did any one appear for about three days, when the master who with the crew had landed at Grimsby accom-panied by one of the owners came to the place But she has continued in my charge the whole of the time.

I have almost daily communicated with Lloyds agent respecting the vessel and Messrs Ellis, Parker & Clarke of no 2 Cowpers Court, Cornhill London EC, have called upon me for amount of expenses incurred in getting her off the shore also salvage claims, a copy of my reply is on the other side. I am Sir J.S.
