W.A. Pinkerton 1st South First Avenue Chicago.

[right]214 Flood Building, [right]San Francisco, Nov. 20, 1915.

My Dear Governor Spry:

I cannot help but write you congratulating you on the able and manly stand you took in the Hillstrom case. There never was any doubt of Hillstrom's guilt, and all kinds of political influence and other things were brought up to try and make you deviate from the course of your duty, and I congratulate you for the manly stand you took in the premises, and if you Agency can be of service to you at any time we would be only too glad to do so.

I only wish there were moremen of your nerve occupying the position of Governor of different States in America. The trouble appears to be throughout the country "lack of nerve" on the part of the Governor of the State, and I again congratulate you on the stand you took.

With my kindest personal regards,

[center]Sincerelly yours, [center]Wm. A. Pinkerton

Mr. William A. Pinkerton, 137 South 5th Avenue, Chicago, Ill.

My dear Mr. Pinkerton:

I beg to thank you most sincerely for your cordial letter of Nov. 20th, and for your expression of approval of my position in the Hillstrom case. It is a source of much satisfaction to know that the decent, self-respecting element of our people are behind the public officials in their efforts to enforce law and order.

With my kind personal regards, and wishing you the compliments of the season, I beg to remain

Cordially yours,

[center]Governor.

Feeling a very deep sympathy for you in undergoing the task that you have just past, having all the possible pressure brought to bear by the "I Wont Works" the Scallawags of the earth, and occasionally a good man here and thier, and even the Executive Head of this great Nation, the later of which would seemingly necessarily make your task more trying to you.

I thank God that you didi your duty, and in my judgement practically all the people are with you,

Believeing in holding up a man hands when he is doing his duty over ever all the obsticals possible to rally.

Mr. A. D. Phillips, [indent] Caney, Oklahoma, Dear Sir: [indent]I am in receipt of your communication of Nov. 22, and beg to thank you most sincerely for the cordial expressions therein contained. [indent]As a result of the campagin which was waged throughout the country on behalf of this man Hillstrom, I have received between twenty and thirty thousand pieces of mail most of which are of a threatening character, and even now, after the law has taken its course and it would appear that efforts to intimidate are futile, I am daily in receipt of vicious and threatening communications. Thank you again for your thought and courtesy in expressing your approval of our action, I beg to remain Very truly yours,

[centered]Governor.
